...Until then, my radio is working just fine, that is all I care about. ?
This.

I am extremely wary to install a new version of Sync until it's been out for a bit so as to avoid any "updates" that cripple the radio.

I still remember the "update" that killed your ability to browse CarPlay playlists due to "safety".

A later version rectified that terrific idea, but that doesn't mean that someone else will decide that something else needs to be done because Ford's customers are just too stupid to know what's good for them.

The current version is quite stable, for me anyway.

I've only had to do the 2-finger salute a few times.

Now that I've typed that, it will go nuts tomorrow.

I didn’t want to do any software updates but my radio’s screen went black almost on a daily basis. Sometimes more than once a day.

The radio build was 20136 which I believe is what came with the radio and was never updated.

This thread motivated me to update Sync.

I am moving from SYNC Version 3.4.19274

So I downloaded the zip file and viewed the contents. Instructions say to move the 3 files (It actually 2 files and a folder (sub directory)) to a ExFat formatted USB drive.

Simple enough to do, right.

Only when I viewed the zip file contents I found the 2 files and 8 Tar compressed files!

I hate it when instructions are not accurate. So being an I/T person, I am confident that Ford has updated the installation code. But I do not trust Ford enough to put those files on a USB drive and attempt to install on my truck without an explanation. 2 of those TAR files are almost 1GB in size, so there are clearly different Sync flavors / versions in this zip file.

Is the install process sophisticated enough to figure out what to install? I obviously don't trust Ford, so I will ask here. Questions follow

1 - Has anyone installed this version of the sync update and did you see this many files in your installation?

2 - What was the install process that you used?

3 - My Sync version has not given me any issues, and I'd rather not introduce any. Will I lose any features with this update or is it simply bug fixes?

Here is what I see in the zip file and the PDF instructions displaying what I should be seeing. The zip file contents are in the window below the red box.

Thanks for the assist.

Just for the update you mentioned, I never received the update file when doing the update so I could not upload it to Ford. The ford.com still shows my truck as needing to do the update... it has been a few months and still has not updated on ford.com to show I have the latest sync update.
