I have a 2020 XL with the vinyl flooring and I'm really happy with it. Much easier to keep clean than carpet, although the cab might not be as quiet. I've had my XL for a year this month and the vinyl floor is holding up quite well. I also have floor mats so that probably helps.

I wonder if a retro-fit how the vinyl would work with using the carpet backer material (in regards to sound). Carpet is probably glued to that stuff and wouldn't be worth the hassle. ha

One of my co-workers in Arizona did this in his F250. He ordered the OE vinyl floor from the dealer, and installed it himself over the carpet pad. He used no additional mats over the vinyl, and it still looked decent after 10 years of heavy use.

If I couldn't get the factory installed vinyl due to trim level, I'd just stick with good floor liners.

That's what I did in my Lariat.
