I finally broke down and bought a tuner and a custom tune for my '19 ranger xlt sport 4wd. There's a guy that I've dealt with in the past that is well known in the coyote tuning world, and at one point in time was the lead trainer for SCT (or at least this is what I was told). I worked with him extensively tuning and datalogging my '13 Roush supercharged F150, so I hit him up about tuning the Ranger.

I haven't been to the track yet, however the difference is pretty amazing. He leaves the skip shift alone in "D", as he thinks it is just too busy (the transmission) for normal everyday driving (making it hit all the gears without skipping) and saves most of the performance improvement for sport mode. The shifts are firm and positive, and the shift rpm's are probably 1k higher after tuning than before. Hopefully I can make a trip to the track soon and see if we have another 13 second ranger on our hands or not.

I also learned that the SCT X4 will work with the Ranger, even though it's not listed as working on SCT's website. This is a big bonus over using the BDX tuner, as the BDX, if I'm not mistaken, can only be used on one vehicle without having to pay a significant sum of money to make it programmable to another vehicle. The X4 can be unlocked I think and used on at least 5 different vehicles, if I'm not mistaken. I thought I was getting the BDX, but when it showed up and it was the x4, I was happy.

Oh, this is a 93 octane tune. He does leave enough room in the tune however to run 91 in a pinch if I make a road trip and 93 isn't available.

Yes, I'm aware of the warranty concerns that a lot of folks have. I'm not one of them.

Oh, I almost forgot....the guy works at Swamp Land Diesel. Previously he was at id-motorsports. Some of the high performance 5.0 f150 guys might recognize his name...Matt Alderman.
