I've already mulled over a few ideas, but a bunch of ideas from different people has paid off in the past. Curious what you might suggestion that will:

1. Secure the item tightly
2. Lockable

My only caveat is nothing with slack or extra bits hanging off (aka cable locks)

Doesn't necessarily have to be a one piece unit, it could be two separate items for each function.

You are welcome. What is the need for the ladder?

If you put it where the 3 red rings are wouldn’t that impede the opening of you side storage

Easier access to my top platform. Right now I sort of do a hopscotch of a 4 foot folding ladder from the ground, then put it on the tailgate, or if I am in a hurry just monkey my way up the side via the tire and storage pods.

Not if I off-set the ladder when its mounted (so more of the ladder above the panel) and not center mount it. The lids open so they are perpendicular to the truck.

If speed is the choice could you affix it to the back so you could pull and go? Not sure how much space is available at the rear of the rack.

I say go for your idea. See how it works. If it fails toss it in the back seat until something works out.

The only downside to the pull & drop ladder is I eventually plan to fabricate a pull out tray in the bed for an RTT - this would of course render said ladder system unusable when deployed. Unfortunately I can't find any company that makes a 7-8 foot version as they all revolve around maritime boarding use, or commercial trucks as drop down steps. Nothing application specific for our hobby. I guess that is why most companies utilize telescopic ladders (with things like RTTs, etc ect)

I believe Rhinoracks makes a 2 piece folding rack to ground ladder, but per usual their asking price is beyond stupid.
