Stock 265 spare incompatible with 285 setup

I found a nail in one of my 285 tire and decided to take it off then take it to have it fixed. In it's place I mounted my stock 265 tire (driver rear) to drive a short distance of roughly 5 miles to the nearest tire shop going about 50 mph. Half way there, warnings started to pop up. First was lane keep failure. Second was pre-collision brake assist failure. After remounting the 285 afterwards, the warnings went away. Something in the rotational differences between the two sizes was throwing things off. This tells me that I need to come up with a way to install a spare same as my full set. Anyone know if a 285 tire can fit into the spare wheel well?

That may or may not be related. I had thise same issues while driving down the highway early on with NOTHING changed on my Ranger. Took it to the Dealer who kept it for a few days and couldn't find anything wrong. Hasn't happened since..... Go figure.

Could be but it never happened before (20k miles) and hasn't happened since...

Mine did it just by putting the spare on, no over sized tires, but I believe it as freaked out by not having a TPMS on the spare and the flat in the box reading 7 psi. Same warnings as you, all went away when I put the stock one back on.

You should be good to go. I put a 265/70R17 on my spare rim and there’s still more room available. I saw somewhere a member here put a 33x12.50 down there too but can’t remember who it was!

Yep that’s why I posted what I did... lol. My tire still has room around it and it’s sidewall is only about 1/2” smaller each side and another member has put a 33” under and that’s slightly bigger than your 285 so I don’t see any reason why yours wouldn’t fit. The only thing I’d be concerned about is if that 285/70R17 on a stock spare wheel would clear the knuckle or not. You may have to use a different wheel or carry a thin spacer with you as well.

I looked and can't actually find a 265/75/17 tire. Looks like they don't make that size?

EDITED TO ADD ABOVE.

265/75/R17 would give you 32.6" tire vs your 32.7" tires.

It equates to ONE rotation per mile difference.

102.7" vs 102.5" circumference.

And that would definitely fit in the well. Narrower at 10.4" vs 11.2"

That's what I would do if the width and offset were an issue.

Yes, I have a 285/70-17 in my spare tire well, it's a touch over 33 in real diameter. It's awfully tight but it works.

I did for, but since I have sliders I can swap rear to front then stick the spare on the back slider. I'll get another rim soon, just haven't yet.
