Spray in liner or bed mat

I have a drop in liner and do not like it. I'm on the fence about a line-x spray in or just a rubberized bed mat to go with my hard tonneau.

Thoughts / opinions on the two?

I had the premium Line-x installed and have zero regrets. It still looks almost brand new after two years of hauling buckets of clay/crushed shell and countless dirty shovels scraping across it. Every so often I'll take a few minutes to scrub it down with soapy water and a brush. Comes out clean every time!

If I recall correctly, the premium liner is a cosmetic upgrade. Same amount of protection as the base, but it includes a clear top coat that keeps the black color from fading. Think I spent <$600 on the install.

Original bed mat in my '87 - been there since day one.

Hauled gravel, plywood, moving, trash etc. for decades and has a great patina. Honestly it's all I would have put in my '19 when I got it. But the dealership scratched up the bed during prep and it cost them a $500 line-x job

It's a truck bed, it's going to get worked over. The outside is mint, but I don't mind wear and tear on the part of the tool I use.

Get rid of the plastic drop-in one asap. They shouldn't even be sold in my opinion, they trap dirt and moisture, and they rub the paint off from the constant vibration. A bed tray will too, but at least they're easy take out and clean under and let dry out.

This is a good point - the Weathertech I posted is installed with 14 adhesive-backed velcro pads. So it is nice that there's a system that keeps the mat in place. It's kinda ugly when you peel the mat off - I will admit. With 14 rando Velcro pads littering the bottom of the bed. I leave the mat in so no worries for me!

I did both and don't regret spending a few extra bucks to protect my truck AND make it look nice hopefully for many years to come!

So funny you should mention trapping dirt. I bought my ranger used, low mileage and never run in winter (elderly snowbird). I didn’t notice during the purchase but when I got it home and poked around a bit more it looks like a chipmunk got in and built a nest between the bed and the liner in one of the knockouts holes by the tailgate!

It'll still trap moisture though, and the velcro pads even more moisture. and the edges will eventually wear the paint away. Albeit, not as bad a drop-in, but be cautious.

Yes for sure! In my personal case living in the desert I am generally concerned about lack of moisture so I left that off my own worry list. It's a very important point to bring up here because most people are not living in a climate similar to my own.

Yes! And they do a good job with the colors, pretty vibrant.

I'll add my vote for both spray-in and a mat. Over the 20 years that my shop sold these products a lot of customers stated that the addition of both drastically cut down on the road noise from the bed.

I like the spray in, have it on mine, entire bed and tailgate, they remove the bolts on the tailgate before spraying. If you get some grit under the mat or drop in liner it would eventually scratch up the bed you are trying to protect. Just my thoughts. It also protects the wheel wells where a mat won't. A mat on top of the spray in if cost effective. I would like to find a tail gate pad to protect my old knees if it fit right .
