We’re seeing more builds running spray-in + drop-in together. And yeah, the first reaction is usually: “If I already paid for a spray-in, why add a drop-in—isn’t that wasting money?”

Short answer from a lot of real-world users: extra cushion, less rattle, better grip, and a sacrificial layer that keeps your spray-in from getting gouged when you chuck sharp or heavy stuff.

And we’ve been combing through pickup forums across models and the theme is consistent, check what they've said.

So here's the conclusion:
  1. Spray-ins are great and look clean, but they’re not perfect.
  2. Stacking a drop-in on top can solve specific pain points (noise, slide, impact).
Owners shared a ton of useful experiences—we figured it’s worth a proper poll here.
And...here comes our question:
If you already have a spray-in, would you add a drop-in on top?
• Yes — extra protection/grip is worth it
• Maybe — depends on price/fit/weight
• No — spray-in is enough
• Not sure — convince me in the comments

To make this useful and fun, we are hoping you can share your opinion down below this thread, and we are select one winner giving away 2 sets of bed mat to him/her or his/her friend from this forum

Here's the rule:
• Comment your take on spray-in + drop-in (real experience or what’s holding you back).
• @Tag one forum friend who’d have an opinion.
We’ll randomly pick one comment and send two bed mats — one to the commenter and one to the tagged friend.
• Multiple thoughtful comments = better odds, but one set max per person.

House rules

Keep it friendly, respect different setups, and skip the brand bashing. Real-world experience beats hot takes.

Dropping a few use-case screenshots below to spark ideas. Your pics welcome — especially that “one load that sold me” moment. Fire away 👇

No spray in liner here, just a simple drop in bed mat from Rough Country. But it works, money well spent. Just like the floor mats that I purchased from ya'll.

Simple, but effective.

I had the dealer instal a spray in liner before picking up my Ranger. I've always had drop in liners and they served their purpose but they do scratch the paint up underneath and water does get behind them. I've always added a rubber bed mat too because they're so rough it makes kneeling on the spray texture easier on the knees while also keeping things back there from sliding all around.

I have the spray in liner. Love it. I don't haul much with my truck so it really doesn't get abused too much. But, i would like to get a bed mat to keep things from sliding & banging around in the back. I was debating the merrits of a Decked system vs. the T-Mat system vs. a Bed Mat. I'm willing to test out a bed mat if it can accomplish what I want. Because the whimpy cargo net I have back there isn't the greatest. I would prefer the simplest solution so,,, probably gonna go with a bed mat. @TxOTRRanger - check out this promo...

@TDF017, tbh, I don't haul that much either, but this is the third Ford Ranger that I have had just a simple drop in bed mat in and it works well for what I use it for. I'm going to go through my stash of bungee straps and see if I have some heavy duty ones for my spare tire holder lol.

I bought my 2020 used and it came with a spray-in bed liner from the factory.

I added a thick horse stall mat from Tractor supply and trimmed it to fit the bed which works great. No need to add a drop-in liner.

Edit: I forgot to mention I also have a Solid Fold tonneau cover which pretty much keeps the bed waterproof.

@TDF017, I have a spray in, and it serves it's purpose. At least at first. As I age, and it seems to be happening quickly as of late, a spray in is hard on the knees. I would consider adding something to ease the pain.
My OEM knees are about to get swapped out for bionic ones so I don't kneel any more. That being said,,, I have kneeled in the bed of my truck and it sucks / hurts. A bed mat would have been greatly appreciated at that moment.

Mine came with factory spray in liner. It has held up very well. I throw all kinds of stuff in the bed. I never intentionally abuse it, but I also don’t think twice about throwing anything you can think of in it. Fire wood, metal, vehicle/boat parts, propane tanks, deer, hogs, gravel and the list keeps going lol. Something to easily keep the propane tanks from rolling around needs to be my next project. When you forget you have some back there and stop suddenly it’s an attention getter😂

That's how I ended up getting a bed mat. My first F150 just had a drop in plastic liner and I had just stopped at the paint store and loaded up for a job. (You can see where this is going.) The first corner I took I heard bang and then all the paint cans were rolling around the bed. I've had a bed mat or spray in liner ever since. lol

All my prior F-150 trucks I had drop in liners and never looked under them for rust problems. This time I opted for the spray in liner and love it. I think having both would be overkill.
I was confused at first but I'm guessing they're using the wrong terminology saying "drop in" which we all refer to as a drop in plastic bed liner. Their giveaway is for a bed mat which I'm ASSuming is what they really mean when referring to a drop in.

To make this useful and fun, we are hoping you can share your opinion down below this thread, and we are select one winner giving away 2 sets of bed mat to him/her or his/her friend from this forum

Dear god I see a Dampener?
and the brass balls to post the picture of it too LOL

I have the Ford Spray in and its rock solid, I will have to give it two thumbs up and recommend it 100%
I toss 1000s of lbs a week of metals, when I first seen it I wondered how long before I ruined it SOB 2 years now havent even scratched it!
If I ever see a Mat at a good price I may pick it up for shits and grins, thinking it will act as a sound buffer? if nothing else

I had mine sprayed by Linex and have not felt the need for any drop in solution since. I have not observed gouges or chips in the liner from hauling things like yard working equipment, rocks, firewood, or ammo cans.

The Linex is 'harder' than other liners, almost having a plastic texture more than a rubber one. My previous truck had an inyati liner and I actually preferred it as it had more of the rubber grip. Downside is that one was more prone to gouges and cuts.
