Last week I went on a 3,000 mile, 11 state road trip in my 2020 Ranger XLT FX4 Off Road. I purchased it new December 2020 and when I started the trip, I had 3,000 miles on it. During this trip is the first time I played the radio several hours at a time.

3 times the satellite radio faulted when I restarted the truck after a rest stop or getting gas. If we left the truck off for about 30 minutes, the radio worked fine. It works fine on all the short trips. Nothing else on the screen (like Nav, etc.) had any issue. We listened to FM or Apple Play music from my iPhone.

Do you have experience with this issue? If so, please offer some (practical and relevant) suggestions.

Thanks

What do you mean by “it faulted”?

Just no sound? Was there anything on the screen like the channel you were on?

Mines been fine on multiple many-hour road trips so I’m not familiar with your situation. Do you notice any SiriusXM Updating message at the top of the screen (although the message doesn’t stay on screen long)?

Are you on the "free" version for 6 months or subscriber? Ask because it validated at every startup and when I got my 19 and before I put it on my subscription it faulted a few times like you described. Had no problems after switching though.

If it did not connect, I just turned off the radio and then back on.

Did you recently update to the latest SYNC version (21020)? Some people who have updated, including myself, have had Sirius issues. I believe Ford is aware of the issue.

Yes, there is a thread about the faulty XM after the recent Ford sync update. Tons of us are having this issue. My truck did another update yesterday, I’m hoping it was a fix for the one done on 5/22/21.

Did your version change after the update?

No...been a subscriber for years and continued my subscription with this purchase. No prompts or stops as you describe.

I am (and have been) on Sync 3...I did download an update the day before I left on the trip. Maybe it was the update?

I believe it’s related. Mine started acting up the same day as the update. It downloaded another update a week later but XM still freezes randomly ?

I have only ever done updating via USB and no issues (2 Sync updates and 1 map update).

It does seem to look like this has started to occur now with those who have been getting automatic updates (via wifi) though…
