I have a scangauge II, I was wondering if anyone found the correct codes to monitor the transmission fluid temperature? I see 4 possible options on the scangauge site and none of them seemed to work - unless i somehow fat fingered a digit along the way.

I just wish Ford provided a safe range. I think the manual says normal is 215F or so but no mention when towing. Same with engine temps. Water temp broke past 230F once and the instrument cluster gauge only went to the middle position. Wish they put numbers on the gauges so they could actually be useful.

Good point, I would be curious to know if 230F is still considered “safe”

I would assume so, considering the gauge just moved from below center to center but I for sure do not like seeing it over 220F so I plan to upgrade the radiator. I am towing a 19ft travel trailer in over 100F temps and it only breaks 220F when going uphill at 65-70mph (speed limit 75mph and tires rated for 75mph). Well, I should say it is usually 215-220F when towing in these temps. It only gets into the 220-225F range in the conditions mentioned.

That said, the one time it hit 234f I decided to pass some big rigs going up hill at 45mph while I was towing. The Ranger accelerated with no issues other than the engine temps. I think in part it was because the trans held the gear for quite a while past the time I needed it to accelerate but still, a good excuse for a new shiny radiator.

The trans, that sticks close to engine temps, usually about 10F higher. I just wish I knew the normal and safe ranges before thinking "oh oh".

There is some cooling muscle because I have seen temps go from 225F down to 198F, below what I was at before it got warm. I suspect Ford wants it to be in this temp range I assume for emissions maybe? If that is the case, I may only need a thermostat change but the $800 or so for a radiator is cheaper than getting stranded while towing.
