I’ve taken switches like this apart before. It probably has 2 rocker contacts, it disconnects as you start to push or pull. This disables the driver door and when you push or pull completely then it connects for up or down.

This is why you can’t just disconnect it. There needs to be an electrical path completed so the driver door switch will work like no one is trying to operate it. Meaning you would need add 2 jumpers to the disconnected wire harness connector on each switch.

I hope this makes sense.

I don’t have a schematic and 185 bucks is a bit much too money for me to get one.

I have a SuperCab so I don't know about the Ranger.
But on my Transit connect I can lock the window controls separately.
from the driver's seat.
Look at page 75 in the owner's manual under "windows and mirrors"
That's the page in the 2019 Ranger Manual

"Safety Switch for the Rear Windows"

Note: Once you press the safety switch, you
can still operate the rear windows and front
passenger window from the driver door
if you have global opening and closing.
I'm re-launching this thread because my toddler-niece is giving me the same problem. When mine was that age, I had an Escape, and could lock the windows while retaining the ability to operate them from the driver's controls, but I can't do this in the Ranger.

I found the above quoted page in the manual, and it continues on the next page with

Note: In vehicles without global opening and closing, you cannot operate the rear windows from driver side when you press the safety switch. In certain vehicles, you cannot operate front passenger windows as well.

I can operate the front window, but not the rear ones, so it would seem that Rangers don't come with the "global opening and closing", although beyond the description above, I'm not real sure what that is exactly. Is it a hardware or a software thing? Is it something that could be activated through Forscan? I don't have it, so I can't check for myself; can anyone who has Forscan answer this?

Are there any other solutions? While Jeff's solution seems to have worked for Andy's dogs, I rather suspect that the toddler's reaction to such a device would be

Toddlers have fingers that can pop them out…

I believe you may be out of luck as our Rangers do not have global opening and closing. Our Rangers do not have the door modules required to do this. The lock switch simply cuts power to the rear windows.

You can add global opening and closing, but it requires an aftermarket module. Two Australian companies make modules to do this. I have the Trac Electronics module in mine. It gives me auto up down for all windows from the drivers controls, and the ability to open and close the windows with my fob. Also auto closes all the windows when I lock the truck with the Ford app. But. Locking the rear windows does disable them from working totally. The module also disables the auto reverse for all the windows though.

Exactly!!
Maybe use a little rubber cement or something like 3M command strips to hold them in tighter than toddler fingers can pull.

That said then aren’t the toddler’s strapped in?? They shouldn’t be able to jump out of the window like my dog. My dog is not strapped in and now is not a problem. I’m really not seeing a safety problem here, just an annoyance. I get what you’re saying but you can lock out what those little fingers are doing.

I think the global opening & closing was/is Lariat only, not sure.

I'm not worried about the toddler getting out, but them opening the window on the highway and throwing something (stuffy, sippy cup, etc.) out the window before anyone can stop it. Then I have to deal with a screaming, crying toddler and stop on the side of the highway to try to find the damn thing. There is also the safety issue of what if this all happens while I'm passing someone, and said flung item lands on someone's window & startles them causing a knee-jerk reaction? Yes, this is all a bit "worst-case scenario", but as every soldier knows "train for war, pray for peace".

I have the Lariat, and it's not there. Now, this one was pre-owned, so I don't know if it was an option, but it's definitely not standard.
