Yeah. Cameras were added because people kept running over kids they couldn't see behind their vehicles. Regardless of how macho a parker you've been for the paste 200 years, the mirrors have a blind spot directly behind the tailgate. Not using a camera won't actually make your dick any bigger, and if you do run over a kid you'll really wish that you had wimped out and used the camera that day.
Added to that, because of the camera's position, you can see 'around' the truck parked next to you when backing out of a straight-in spot in a parking lot. I really like that feature.

As a commercial driver, many vehicles that I drove had trailers behind the tractor so I used the mirrors because that was all there was. Our company started adding aftermarket cameras to the trailers that would pair to the tractor. I still did not always trust them and I still look around and use mirrors when backing up in the Ranger or the Escape. Old school I guess, Ha Ha.

1000%

People should at least glance at it before the vehicle begins to move, even if they don't use it to guide them. It's saved my butt some kid's butt a few times.

A huge problem is young kids who are both ignorant as well as fearless on power-scooters, skate boards, motorized creates/coolers, low three-wheel bikes/trikes/big wheels etc... zipping thru an area oblivious that in most cases drivers cant see them. I blame the parents, 7 year old's dont need anything 'motorized' that allows them to do 15 mph. We had a kid who at about 5 was allowed to ride his trike around the block unsupervised. I'm not sure who was supposed to be watching this kid but it was a regular occurrence and those are the tragedy stories of injury, death or abduction.

My teenage children were all taught at a young age to assume every car in a driveway does NOT see them and stop well to the side of their drive and let them go. I always hit the horn before backing across a public walk...not fool proof but its helped on a few occasions where between the time I looked over my shoulder and at mirrors and honked that some kid wandered out from behind my vehicle that I otherwise could not see and would have been plastered to my rear bumper.
Gotta love that sinking feeling as Mrs. Smiths oblivious 'lil angle pedals away...

IMO the problem is the people in the cars. Blaming some kid is just sad.

As written in the recall report...

“The recall covers most 2020 versions of Ford's F-Series trucks, as well as the 2020 Explorer, Mustang, Transit, Expedition, Escape, Ranger and Edge. Also included are the Lincoln Nautilus and Corsair. F-Series trucks are the top-selling vehicle in the U.S.”
“The recall begins Nov 7th.“

I would wait to see if/when you receive a letter or notification in the FordPass app before worrying too much or proceeding with any action. It's likely your dealer has nothing they can do about it right now anyways. And I'm sure the letter/notification will have instructions you need to follow like "wait until such and such a time when parts available".

Hi Matt,

Yes...and if the camera is defective, Ford likely pulled the parts out of the system and there are no replacement parts available until further notice.

Back in 1981 with the 1.6L Escort, Ford found that one of the three head gasket suppliers was the root cause of the headgasket failure issue. This gasket supplier was 10% of production and 100% of supplier of Ford parts. What mess. Stock pulled from Parts and Service Division.... Few weeks to back fill with parts from the two good suppliers....lots of blown head gaskets sitting as hanger queens in the dealerships...awaiting parts.

Best,
