I'm getting back into RC vehicles and can't believe how they have merged into some amazing technologies in the last 30 years!!! Now I'd love to find a 5G body to put on one. All I can find is some old Rangers. Zoom Zoom these new ones are amazingly fast!!!

I had a couple friends who were into these years ago. One had a motocross track in his back yard and would take the RC monster trucks over the course. lol They were pricey back then I can't imagine what they are now.

Hi David,

My younger brother was into this many years ago. I watched this toy around the off road track, and being Manager of Ford Offroad Racing, I knew a thing or two. So F*uck whit brother, for once listened to me and he freed up the rear suspension. I bounced this thing and told him not good enough. He with comment did revise the shocks. He won the competition but hated the fact I helped set up the buggy. I found it boring to watch and never participated again, liking playing with the real thing...Trick Trucks down to the stock classes in Best In The Desert Racing, which we were sponsors and provided technical support.

best,
Phil

I like the small LaTrax series. Not too pricy, RTR so out of the box fun, and easy to get replacement parts for them. My son managed to break 3 of the 4 axles on his LaTrax Teton. I have the LaTrax Prerunner and have broken nothing so far. I have an older (not exactly sure, guessing well over 20 years old) RC-10T with carbon fiber chassis RPM arms, JR Python controller (the last upgrade it got), and such, it was fun and fairly pricy to spec it like it is back in the 90s. It's not as much fun, or as good a controller, as the new LaTrax.

You can get an amazing little ride in a 1/16 scale 4 wheel drive with brushless motor and fairly sturdy for $129 RTR batteries and charger included like this one. Check it out being bashed about in this video!

That's a cool video and not a bad price for them either. For some reason I thought they were a lot more but maybe they were back then and prices have come down. Looks like a cool hobby to get into especially if you have a few friends to do it with crashing into each other. lol

You'll want to stay with a company that has good parts support. I've been into RC since 1971 and still race them in our club. I do mostly on road racing these days due to the fact that parts breakage is a lot less. Axial, Traxxas, Red Cat, are a few that have good quality products. For on road, you can't beat Tamiya as far as I am concerned. The go fast break easy TOYS on Amazon I would stay away from unless your goal is to just replace parts, if you can find them. You'll also need a good quality charger that will smart charge the newer batteries sold today. NICADS aren't in use much today. Good luck, have fun.

I used to race off road trucks. I still have an Associated RC10 T2 and the first truck my wife gave me as a Christmas present probably 25 years ago, it's a Tamiya Stadium Blitzer. It was fun to learn to drive with but was severely outclassed by the Associated and Lossi stuff of the time.

It was a great winter time hobby when there was a local indoor track. I kind of lost interest when the three local indoor tracks closed.

I still get them out from time to time and chase the dogs around the back yard.

I still have my RC-10 with aluminum chassis!

Hmm, I need to dig that thing out and make a mini Soupie (Cup-a-Soup?) for small dump runs!

Back in the day I had a 1st generation RC10, Gold aluminum pan. Loved it! that was the best one I had before I lost interest.

I agree there are a lot of TOYS on Amazon but did you watch the video I linked? That car took an incredible bashing that I doubt I'll ever give it and all that happened was some body damage and cracking of some of the wheels. If I do break it and can't find parts I could just buy another one just for parts at that price point. I figure this one will let me see if I want to continue with the hobby again and if I do I've already seen some nice Traxxas trucks I'd like to get.?

rc you say? ive got many broken ones and a few crawlers lol

as some have said you get what you pay for... traxxas breaks super easy if you want a good basher thats fast get arma, you want to race get anything other then traxxas but stay away frim hpi... ummm trying to remember all the brands lol its been awhile since ive messed with em

atm i have a
traxxas slash 2wd backslash conversion brushless and geared to hit 90mph(broken),
2wd slash basic-brushed that was setup to be slow for my buddies daughter to play with when we went camping (broken),
slash platinum 4x4-converted into a truggy- custom long travel all new links and regeared to hit 90mph(also broken),
traxxas 4tec-bought to race and ended up not racing since the class was closed... then geared it to hit 100mph and smashed it into a storm drain (also broken),
axial scx10 honcho(since changed no longer the honcho body)-rock crawler full upgraded with new axles links gears new steering setup just about anything you can buy for one but electronics (still need to do that) plus a custom 1st gen toyota pickup body from rc4wd that was bobed and dove nosed love that body!,
axial scx10 ii kit Cherokee- full built kit with lots of upgrades internally and with a really good electronics setup the truck weighs a good bit since it was setup for comps but never used it lol also has a toyota pickup body with the old honcho cage
,vatera twin hammers buggy- bought it because it was cool upgraded the suspension and never used it lol,
exc amp buggy- was a old friends rc that i was rebuilding for him then he passed away so i fully rebuilt it with the best parts i could find and painted a new body for it and was told to keep it so now it sits on a shelf

That looks like a nice racer! If I had that little Losi I'd at least bash it around the house. LOL

The T2 had the aluminum pan too. I had upgraded mine to full ball bearing in the steering linkage, carbon reinforced suspension arms and Teflon coated shock absorber shafts.
