I have a new 2021 Ford Ranger with ~4600 miles on it, bought in July.
Driving home the other night, I noticed the above error messages started popping up on my screen, along with the chiming. Also, the gear indicator light "D" on the display was flickering. It seemed to drive ok and I made it home but, two more things:
1. When I got home, it would not shift into reverse to backup into my driveway. I could shift with the lever but, reverse would not engage. It was late so I just parked it.
2. Next morning, I tried to start the car an it would not start. I got warning messages that I was not in "Park" so it would not allow the engine to start.
So, basically the car is dead in my driveway! Yay!!
I called Ford and got a tow scheduled to take it to the dealer tomorrow morning (Monday).
It seems like car has "brain damage". For chuckles, I tried disconnecting the battery and letting it sit for maybe 15 minutes and then reconnected it. This reset the computer and it seem to work now!
It started and I have taken it out on a few test drives (maybe 10miles) ... no problems, working as normal.
I still am bringing it in to the dealer and having it checked. I now do not trust the car and have no confidence that something like this (or worse) can happen anytime in the future. I haven't seen any recall on this.
Has anyone else seen something like this? Any info on it?
Thx.
