Oh, I'm familiar with the UP and it's gorgeous. I could be fishing in the summer and sledding in the winter and attempting to get Amber stuck all the rest of the time. I love that your dog knows about Heikki Lunta!Life is to short to not live where you don't love the weather, outside opportunities and the country side. We loved Duluth and the last year we were there, was a good snow year.
Port, we have friends who do IT here. Go to our dogs blog to see what it looks like here.
Drive home from work this afternoon.Setting up for a classic Minnesota "snow a bunch then deep freeze it all in place" kind of storm today through tomorrow. Light ice accumulations this morning.
8-12" of snow for most of the state after that.
45mph wind gusts from the North creating blizzard conditions.
Then when that's all done, but before anybody has a chance to move any of the snow, the temps will drop fast. Tomorrow it's not supposed to get above 0F, with windchills down near -25F during the day. That'll make it fun to get out and try to move the snow. Makes it nice because then the roads will be snow/ice covered for quite awhile since it'll be too cold to scrape it off or for any treatment to work.
Oh ,yeah. Blizzard warning, zero visibility, 40 mph sustained winds with near 60 mph gusts, and temps rapidly falling to below zero. Snow removal tomorrow will be fun.Drive home from work this afternoon.

Yeah, I really pity you, having to go through such hardship.? Stay safe and don't freeze.Hi Steve,
I can relate. Sun and some wind tomorrow with high falling to about 65°. Will need long sleeves and long pants to keep legs from turning blue in the below 70° temps.... Sigh....Darn Arizona winter weather.
best.

HI Steve,Yeah, I really pity you, having to go through such hardship.? Stay safe and don't freeze.
Before Covid, my brother used to rent a house in Lake Havasu for the winter. My wife and I would go there and stay a couple of weeks. Leaving sub-freezing temps here for 60's and 70's was rough. ? We also spent some time in Scottsdale at my wife's cousin's home. I don't know if I could take the summer temps.
Man, that is a scary dropoff on the left!Did well for a 2WD w/locker.....Last week.

Growing up in western SD (with something like 230 days of sunshine per year) I used to love winter. Now that we live in metro Detroit where its just grey and miserable half the year, I hate it. Glad to know I'm not the only one that notices and dwells on the Michigan grey. I can't wait for spring!Like a little kid, I'm always hoping for large amounts of snow but around here it just seems to stay Michigan grey. For those that haven't heard of it, that is a color that should be in a Crayola box. When winter comes around here it turns grey, with little snow, until spring.
So far just rain, but it turned my long, steep driveway into a sheet of pure ice. Impossible to walk up. Fortunately I keep 3, 5 gallon pails of pickled sand at the top and I had to use all three to make the driveway safe. I did it all by flashlight in the dark, so we will see if it is good enough. I have six more pails of pickled sand in my truck that I use as weight. It looks like the snow will fall later today and mostly tomorrow.Rain then snow for us. Not sure how much of each, it will depend on how the storm tracks:
”
Rain developing tonight followed by heavy snow Thursday evening or early Friday.
Rain is forecast to begin tonight ahead of an approaching low pressure system. As the low pressure system lifts northward Thursday, the rain is forecast to transition over to snow. The snow may become mixed with ice pellets for a period Thursday or Thursday night. By late Thursday, or early Friday, the snow may become heavy at times, resulting in hazardous travel conditions. Local blowing snow is also possible.
Snowfall accumulations in the 5 to 20 cm (2 to 8”) range will be possible, with the majority of the snow falling from late Thursday to early Friday morning, which is Christmas morning.
Snowfall Warnings will likely be required for some regions.
There remains considerable uncertainty as to the exact track of the low pressure system responsible for the rain and snow. This will ultimately affect how much snow may fall at a particular location, and therefore the wide range of snowfall amounts possible.”
It was quite windy today on the ice.
