It took a good deal of jacking the engine - definately pushing the limit. I recall someone telling me some 20 yrs back or so when the gaskets were failing that a shop in the Denver area would do a basic head gasket replacement for $1k . Link to in the car workThe LIC Guys make some good head gaskets. Six Star as well.
It now takes me about 50 minutes to get a EJ25 out of a Subaru (I have done a lot of them). I couldn't imagine swapping the gaskets in the car. Granted I was a little hesitant pulling my first Subaru Motor. But after that I have all the tools to take them out and turn them around.
