I keep trucks for decades and don't like spending money twice.

I've been thinking hard about a tonneau for my Lariat. But worry they may not last the time I have truck. So, a hard cap is how I am leaning.

Any recommendations or thoughts?

Further any experience and recommendations on a solid hard cap that will help secure the bed and protect the tailgate as well. Pics and model of your's if you like it?

I have the Truxedo Truxport Tonneau Cover. It's a soft roll up and I like it a lot. It has held up well during winter while keeping the elements out.
On my last truck, I used a soft Tri-Fold cover. I personally would go roll up if you go the soft route. You don't constantly have to remove the entire tonneau cover when the whole bed access is needed.

Just a tip if you get a hard cap. Had one on an F-150 I bought used. It was a great looking cap, kept the water out, but I couldn't get anything tall in the bed. With the cap hinged at the front, capacity is diminished greatly. I couldn't even get my push mower in there without removing the handle.

If you haul stuff a lot a soft roll up is nice. They are not as secure as a hard locking cover, but you can buy three soft tonneaus for the price of the referenced diamondback. I have a Truxedo Lo Pro on my Ranger. I had Truxedos on my last two F150’s and traded them at 5 years, over 100k miles and the Tonneaus were still in good shape. I personally would never use a cover that restricted the use of my bed in any way.

I went best of both worlds.

Fas-Top travel package. Tonneau the majority of the time, then BOOM, soft topper for the dogs.

Been very happy with the quality and workings of it.

We sell all kinds of bed covers that would work for you. A good option to consider is a RetraxPro cover. They're retractable but made of Aluminum slats so they should withstand a lot more than a soft rollup cover. You still get the functionality of retracting it back just a little or all the way unlike some of the hard covers. We try and get good deals for our forum members so I'd be happy to try and help you out with finding the right cover at the right price.

I don't know why I did not get notices on responses in my email until today on this thread. I waited and thought no response. Went and bought ARE cap to be delivered in May.

Thanks for the comments and suggstions.
