I will celebrate my 14th anniversary this Sept.

What have I learned?

Listen to your wife. She's probably right.
:) That's good. In another 14 you'll realize that she WAS right 100% of the time and your two word vocabulary works... " yes dear".?

Carmax gave me an offer yesterday of $37,800, I paid $36,600 18 months ago. I'm seriously considering it, while I like the Ranger everyone else complains about the space/ride. I have a Bronco reservation so I'm trying to figure out what to do next.

I also hardly drive it, the only thing I need it for now is to tow the jetski and mower. I think I could do either with almost anything.
You have 1,202 reasons to call Carvana back:
  • Reason 1: You hardly drive the Ranger, could get by without it
  • Reason 2: You have a Bronco on order
  • Reason 3-1,200: Carvana is offering well over what you paid for it!
I sold my 2018 Escape to Carvana shortly after I ordered my Ranger this past winter. They offered me much more than the dealer was, and I went with it. Carvana are straight shooters. Everything was clearly understood and disclosed, no hidden fees, I got exactly what they quoted online for it. I would deal with them again in a heartbeat.

One upon a time I had a truck. It was a 2007 Nissan Titan. Real nice Texas Edition. Gas hit $4.50 a gallon and the sticker on that truck said the estimated MPG was 10. I was babying it for 14.

I decided to sell it because it was 5.6 liters of go go and a giant vehicle for just carrying me to and from work - about 35 miles one way. And I bought a hybrid under the misconception that when I want a truck, I'll just rent one. Makes sense, right?

Problem was that renting a truck was a giant PITA. Uhaul never had trucks, they always had cargo vans. So I was renting 10 times more truck than I needed, had to sign up on line drive across town pick it up, and drop it off. The whole uhaul part of the deal sucked up 2 to 3 hours every time I needed a truck and I couldn't be like at costco and just buy patio furniture because they had a good deal. I had to map it out. Home depot was even worse. They had a truck and van available but there I am sitting in their patio furniture with a hot-water heater and no idea when the guy with the truck / van will be bringing it back.

It was a cluster. As soon as finances worked out, I got back into a truck and will NEVER give it up. Too much functionality. I'd give up my wife's car or daughters car first. But thats me and my world. I never realized how many times having a truck allowed me to say "Oh, I'll just solve this problem right now."

I never agreed with that. I don't treat women like they're handicapped. My wife is intelligent and can stand up for herself. We just celebrated 36 years. Your results may vary.

I am in the same situation, wife and I are both teleworking, we have more vehicles than we need to drive on a regular basis. Approaching the retirement age, we feel the Ranger would be the better option over the SUV for utility reasons. Wife doesn't drive the Ranger. I look at it this way, into retirement you don't want to have debt burden (no car payment) if you can pay for your options before retirement, the only true expense is then car insurance. The more vehicles you have the longer they last as you drive them less. It's a question of what are your options in 10y and how do you want to solve them in retirement funds. Everyone's financial dependencies are different, how we prioritize them is a personal thing- It's less stressful to agree with the wife than to have to argue with the wife, but then it's deferred stress if you feel that in the end you're going to end up with a mess following the wife's solution. If you're fine now as you are, and you're fine later- then why bother with any stress.

I've had a truck for decades, and still I bought a trailer for most truck duties.

Even if you have to add a hitch to the SUV, you can replace the Ranger capabilities under $2K even in Canada. Spend $1500USD on a hitch and trailer for the SUV, then you have a truck whenever she needs one.

Sell the Ranger, buy whatever makes you smile.

Left side behind the truck. Under 400 lbs, easy to move around by hand or the hitch I put on my lawn tractor. 5x8 bed 1600lb payload....awesome.

Her Atlas already has a hitch and receiver and the towing package from VW which is rated at 5,000lbs and is more than enough for our lifestyle lol

Light duty landscape trailer is a great alternative to a truck. Much easier to load unload gravel/soil/sand, plants, gardening supplies, furniture, garbage, etc. and less concern about scratches, dents, or theft. Very handy, and like I said, I've always had a truck.

So I've been having a serious discussion with my wife about selling my Ranger... Not because I don't love it, but because I work from home now, and it only gets driven once or twice a week. Whenever we go somewhere as a family we take her full size SUV. I also stand to make 6-10k off selling the truck, and would just use that to buy something cheap for driving to church on Wednesday's and Sundays. I'm also struggling with the idea of making monthly payments on a vehicle that sits 75-80% of the time.... It's not a financial problem, it's just a penny pincher problem lol..... Thoughts?

BTW > My wife is against the idea lol.... she thinks I just want something different (while this is true, I could just pay cash for something different if I really wanted to) and wants the truck for "when we need a truck" which has been twice in the year we've had the ranger.
Just a thought, if the SUV becomes your only means of transportation and breaks down. You have a family with no way to get anywhere.

I had a similar situation but on my GT500. Bought it six months ago but for me it was purely a toy/weekend driver. I could not pass up $8,000 over what I paid.
That being said, I have a car, well truck, to drive. Not having a vehicle for the both of us would be too inconvenient. I am recently retired and we could make it work, but not worth the hassle.
If it's not a money deal, keep the truck.

I needed to add that the prices on used are high right now buying and selling as we all know. If you sell you will have to buy used and guess what, those prices are high thus you getting that much for your used truck.
Sell it.
