The right rear wheel bearing on my truck is starting to fail, over 1mm of runout and a loud squealing while turning left. I was looking for a replacement factory bearing set but cannot find oem bearings, I also confirmed with my local Ford parts department that you need to buy the entire right axle to repair a failing wheel bearing.

Has anyone replaced a rear wheel bearing on these trucks and if so did you have to swap the whole axle or were you able to source the bearing separately?

Pretty sure they are pressed on to the axle. Ford sells them as assemblies but you would have to press the old one off and get a matching bearing. Doable but at what cost. Full assembly might be worth it.

If I'm not mistaken it is a real job to replace the bearing, I think I remember seeing that replacing it is the same/similar as shown here.

Yes, it is a Jeep, but it should be a similar Dana axle.

Either way, depending on your rust status, it might be an ok job, or it might be a real mf'er.

I'd also search around and see if you couldn't get a good quality bearing. Timken SKF etc.
