Me too when I was 14, I was riding a vespa motor scooter and and I did a wheelie on it from a red light and a cop was sitting right next to me so I hauled butt away through a backyard and got clothes lined … back then $15 fine …

Oddly enough, I remember the drooping clothes lines. My Grandma and Grandpa had them at their house. My older cousins and I were always told that before we got on our bikes "don't ride under the clothes lines!"

Out pedaling...the only electric vehicle I need...makes this 67 year old feel like Lance Armstrong (we're both cheaters)...I get more work out lifting this 70lb beast up onto the rack than while riding...I think I pulled something I haven't used in a while...owww lol

You know Sid, a big part of me wants one of those bikes so bad!

This part of me won’t let me get one if I live for a million years.

In the end, my RA might just win out.

They are very cool. I have the Mokwheel Basalt.

If you get one, try one with the torque sensor.

They are much smother than the bikes with a cadence sensor.

Not that cadence sensors are bad, they are just not as smooth and natural feeling.

I know the feeling, Duke...I used to do that all day long...still have my 1990s GT RTS-1 made of super rare Alyuloominum...got back on it recently and when I had to get off and walk the bike of the hill on my street, I gave in...

My Velotric Summit 1 has both...the cadence sensor is too easy so I stick with torque...much more natural feeling except it feels like I have bionic legs...

I’ve had a couple of GTs. Great bikes.

If I get one? Well Dennis, since retiring, I have been packing it on, so I think I need to get one that is Duke-powered until I get down to a respectable state. The knees and hips are still good so I think I’ll see how that goes and think about an electric or peddle-assist a bit later. It’s not like I wasn’t warned this would happen but geezaloo, it didn’t have to happen so fast. :D

I was 60 one day and the next morning, I'm 67 and drawing Social Security...wow time warp!

If you chose the right Ebike, you'll have many levels of assist all the way from zero to full assist with throttle and no pedaling...I'm using the Ebike as a crutch to ease me back into shape without risking a heart attack...

This is why you want one with a torque sensor.

Almost all ebikes have a power setting range of 0 (no assist) to 5 (max assist).

With a cadence sensor, the power assist is applied when the bike senses the crank being turned. If your assist is set at 3, you get the full power of 3 as soon as it senses the crank turning.

A torque sensor senses how hard you are pushing on the pedals and applies assist up to the level you have selected.

If it's set at 3, slight pedal push = slight assist. Harder pedal push = harder assist, up to the level you have set.

I have heard it described as having bionic legs and that's pretty close.

The ebike will NOT let you escape pedaling unless you just sit back and push the thumb throttle. You will get a good workout.

I find that I get e better workout on the ebike than my regular bike simply because I am not afraid of and don't avoid the big hills on my route.

Be aware that many bike trails limit ebikes to a setting of Level 2 (20mph max speed) though since you're in Canada these rules may be different.

Most class 3 bikes can bet set to a class 2 limit.

Mine is a class 3 and can go 28mph on just the throttle. Pedal hard in top gear and I've seen 35mph (through watering eyes) which means it is legally a motorcycle at that point.

All this to say, get one - you'll love it.

Get a cheap one off of a marketplace to try them out first. Find a decent deal and you can sell it for what you paid if you don't like it.

I got one for my wife for $400 (Lectric XP 2) to see what they were like and promptly got myself the Basalt after trying hers.

We carry her Lectric when camping because it folds up neatly and makes cruising the campground a breeze. The bathrooms can be quite far away sometimes.

I'll be glad to answer any questions you might have and I'm sure Sid will be too.

@Msfitoy , your build thread is only 117 pages long. Lets add some ebike building to it so that it doesn't fall behind 😄
