starting up golen canyon, death valley national park. fun canyon wash driving with a stream running down most of the way

getting into the rock garden coming out of Golen canyon. some technical rock crawling gets you to Mengel pass. lots of wheel lifting on the swoops, and a couple spots that required a few minutes of trail building to keep our stock truck off the rocks.

mengel pass, at sunset. with a lot of lens flare. my LED upgrades to the fog lamps have made after-dusk offroading better.

on the way out, Butte valley

great drive. will have to come back and spend more time here.
Great photos. I did this same trek in the opposite direction a few years ago in a stock Jeep 4dr Rubicon. Had some banging and clanging on the rocks through Mengel Pass. How was it with the Ranger?

it was fine. did nothing to shake my confidence in this truck. it would have given us pause earlier in our offroad career, but now just seemed like good fun. might have knocked the skids a few times (as you mention, there is a stretch of very featured rock crawling at the pass) but no concerns. i always check after every trail, and we took no hits to the diff, control arms, etc. cautious wheel placement in a few spots. our truck is stock except 32" tires. there was one spot i wasnt sure if i was going to come down hard on the frame or bumper, but clearly everyone else had the same concern in this one spot and there was an ample pile of rocks. i spent two minutes stacking rocks against the step and that was it. it was super fun, and very beautiful. wide open and a nice variety of terrain and views.

I think we have the same traction boards. Mine came with two plastic pieces and some hardware for mounting. Can you post up some more detailed pictures of how you mounted yours? Thank you!

I'll try to get you one today. Mine are Maxtrax and I'm just using their mounting pins.

Okay. I've got knock offs most likely. But they came with four mounting pins and a plstic bar of sorts to help mount them.

I think we’d all like to appreciate some pictures of where our trucks have been.

Big Bear Ca, got snowed on a little. Ranger exceeded my expectations for comfort off-road.
way to clean haha
