I have a set of running boards from N-Fab that I installed a little over a year ago. Look great, helps wife get into truck. Living on a dirt road, fine sand/pebbles (very small, I don't consider a pebble) have sand blasted the boards to the point I should repaint. I thought the powdercoat would have lasted longer. If I'm going to do this, I want to do it right, and only once.
N-Fab recomments Rustoleum paint, but I feel that is a very temporary fix.
I was thinking about bed liner spray, and that's where I am at.
Has anyone repainted running boards, of skid plate that has used bed liner or any other long lasting paint/coating? What prep did you do?

Thanks for any help...

With my Jeep sliders they recommend using the same Rustoleum paint. Unfortunately living on a dirt/gravel road this is going to happen and besides powder coating them this is what most use. The good thing is this touches up very easily.

I'm a big fan of Raptor Bed Liner kits. I'm about to start a project on my Ranger including the N-Fab Trail Sliders and Warn bumper which both have rust in a few spots. Neither appears to have much prep work done at the factory and the finish on both is failing already. The N-Fab rails have a durable finish, but lack of prep work undermines that quickly.

Rust need to be removed and bare metal needs etching primer before raptor is applied. Smooth or painted surfaces need 180 grit roughing prep, textured surfaces just need a good de-grease cleaning.

I'm doing the bumper and sliders with a Shutz gun for deeper texture, and thinning it to shoot in a primer gun for smoother texture on my fenders, doors, and quarter panels.

It also comes in rattle cans, if you just want to do smaller touch-ups, not the complete bars, but still remove as much rust as you can and use etching primer, or the cancer will continue to grow under the paint.

2 liters will probably be enough for 2 complete running boards.... probably. It comes in 2-8 liter kits, with or without the spray gun. Also comes in tintable kits, which is white.

Good luck whichever route you take.
