I will say that at the end of the day how you spend your money and what your are comfortable buying is your own business.

However as someone that put their hands on one of these at Overland Expo West I would be remiss if I didn't tell you that the fit and finish looked pretty terrible for the low price tag and that no exaggeration EVERY handle and locking mechanism was broken on the several display models left a terrible taste in my mouth about OVS quality in regards to their toppers. I have plenty of friends that have their awnings without issue but since they are just Alibaba Engineering their products I would imagine that certain things would hit and miss.

They take existing designs from other companies, remove anything difficult to manufacture, make stuff at cut rate prices in China, then sell them at discount prices here in the U.S. If that's not a Harbor Freight analog, I don't know what is.

I've started helping GFC out with some PR and marketing stuff and my little brother is their product designer, so take this for what you will, but this remains the highest quality bed cap you can buy. It'll out last any truck you mount it to:
Just came across this… man kudos to the creative ones responsible for this gem of a video.. dying laughing…witty commentary and the man bun, pink shorts, and crocs clad host ??. Also the topper seems pretty friggin cool. (Cool enough that the loudly dressed rep didn’t steal the spotlight from it.). The truck on top part just had me cringe thinking that poor poor suspension?..Hopefully when I see that price tag my manhood won’t retreat up in to my stomach ?. (I suddenly may be in the market for one of these toppers instead of a tonneau cover.)

That says more about the state of the awning market than it does anything else. Every one I've tried has pretty much been, at best, a total PITA. That market is ripe for disruption. If anyone wants to give that a try, call me and I'll see if i can help.

Well, I decided not to cancel the order and it just showed up this evening. Hoping to get it built and installed on Friday provided I'm done with the garage remodel by then (priorities and all ?‍?). Not super stoked about how it came on the pallet but my Roofnest was done much worse and the box was significantly damaged, no damage to the actual product so I'm hoping for similar situation here. I'll update when we have it on the truck.

We got it on the truck last night. All in all, pretty pleased with it. Construction is of pretty good quality, obviously not on the same level as RSI and GFC but for the price I paid I can't complain. 2 points near the rear of the topper where it meets the truck bed bulk head allow water to leak in granted it will be easy to remedy after a quick trip to Home Depot. Wiring instructions that came with it were correct however they suggest grounding the tail light to the body where as I just tapped the factory ground for the tail light.

They recommended having 4 people to lift onto the truck, but my buddy and I were able to do it just fine after removing the 2 side doors to shed some weight.

Might be posting my Billie bars for sale soon, haven't decided... ?

How do you like it after some time with it?

I’ve had several different toppers on previous trucks and always liked the functionality of it. My Ranger has been great but cab/storage is pretty small and had been considering a soft topper and then a rack but at that point, your about what one of these cost. I’m not paying $5k for a topper for this truck, I know I will eventually outgrow it once my kids are a little bigger.

While I don't have experience with this particular canopy, I know Leer canopies run a fair bit cheaper than like an ARE, with the added benefit of much better warranty support. Out the door my Leer 100XR with options (side opening windows, thule tracks on top, etc.) for 3200. Might be something else to look into.

I have the RSi SmartCap on my truck and I have seen the OVS in person. Having seen both in person, I stand by my choice to get the RSi. The overall build is a lot better. The doors feel sturdier, the locks seem better, etc. The OVS seems like a good product for the money, but not the best product available.

Dude if I was looking for a Cap, I think I would HAVE to buy that GFC one based on how entertaining the video you shared was  Reminded me a bit of the Old Spice ads.

I am not sure how heavy these types usually get but ~130lbs seemed pretty reasonable for what it is.

so i now have a velocity blue 24 fx4, offloaded my 2020 because the trans was acting funny.

lots of options out now, westin has one, xtrusion has theirs, gfc obviously and theirs i think is the best option. but for cost with having two financial burdens running around- the ovs checks the box still.
their 24 version should be coming soon, but the bed on the 24 is quite a bit different with the need for bed braces in the front of the box, and spacers on top of the bed rails. (there are 3 little spots on each rail where you need solid spacers to carry the load )

If anyone was curious like myself when researching toppers, here’s a picture. I do not plan on putting a car on my topper and also didn’t want to break the bank. I assembled and installed it this week with 3 buddies. So far, I’m satisfied. Like others have said, it might not be the category leader, but I find it to be quality for the price. I also have no experience or exposure to other topper brands so I can’t truly compare. A local overlanding outfitter had one in stock, so I went for it. Snagged for under $2.4k.

How is it holding up thus far? Looking at this or the GFC.

Been enjoying it so far. No issues at all, no leaks, has worked in sub zero snowy days. I’ll stand by that for the price, it’s a solid buy. OVS has a bunch of mods/enhancements planned for Q2 2025 release- like sliding window on the side doors, external molle panels, organizer pop-ins, etc.

I haven’t seen a GFC topper in person to give a proper comparison.
