Odor of melting plastic from defrost.

Finally got cold enough to use the defrost this morning and my defrost vents are still emitting a odor of smoke from burning plastic. I mentioned it to the service writer during an oil change last winter after it was apparent that it wasn't from the truck being new. (Bought my Ranger in Feb. Of 2019 and it was doing it then). The service writer advised me that no other owners had reported issues so I decided to give it a while longer to dissipate. I now have 19k miles on my truck so it's obviously not going away.

I have this issue randomly as well. It's an odor of hot plastic when I use the heat. I have already had the TSB and my truck is not affected.

I did change my cabin filter to a charcoal one and it has helped somewhat.

I spent 2 hours looking through this the other day because mine is doing the same thing. The thing with that is that my truck is showing no recalls. Mine was also produced in 10/19, so it may not be directly impacted by this recall, but the fact is that it smells like some damn crayons are burning when I turn on my defrost. I thought it was mold so I replaced my cabin air filter, but it's persisted. Going to have the dealer look at it when I take it in for my 10k mile service.

I spent 2 hours looking through this the other day because mine is doing the same thing. The thing with that is that my truck is showing no recalls. The smell is awful! Thankfully I am in Mississippi so I dont use the heat very often. ?

I'll try that....mine has never been changed so it probably needs changing anyway.

It's not too difficult checking it yourself. Took several pics before I got the right angle when I checked mine last year. Never did solve the mystery of how that part has a mfg date later than the build date of the truck. For some reason I didn't get the impression it was a delivery hold, but it's the only real answer. I looked because it happened to me on a shake down drive. I haven't noticed the smell since.

Yes, that was the comment I read in one of the threads. Their dealer found a White Lithium grease buildup on a pipe(?) or something.

The smell is bad. I thought it was something in the fan overheating and was concerned it was going to cause a fire.

Sorry, that's a picture of the bottom of the blower housing from the passenger footwell. The label shows the build date of the assembly.

Ah yes it does there I see that now. I'm assuming since my truck has a 10/19 build date that my blower motor is a non-recall blower. Nonetheless, the shit stinks and it's annoying. The only good thing is that it smells every damn time you turn the heat/defrost on so the dealer can't say anything about not confirming the issue lol.
