I was surprised to see Tito's actual size standing next to "Dr eng." Phil. All the pictures I've seen over the years including the first one in this post made him seem as big as one of those coffee table ones you see in Nat Geographic.

I got to ask, Does he bite if given the chance? How tame do they get? And does he recognize/bond to you?

Forgive my ignorance!

I made the mistake of picking up a snapping turtle as a teenager in South Florida (well south of Miami within a mile of Everglades Nat'l Park.

I picked him up well away from the business end of him and he still almost snapped my finger off! His neck was as long or longer than his shell! I dropped him as his jaws slapped my fingers! I never attempted that again.

And that backstory is why I asked about his pet.

I had a snapper in the yard recently and poked her with a shovel. You could hear the "ting" when she bit it. I dumped her in a bucket and relocated because I didn't want it near the chickens.

Hi Tony,

Tito does not bite...purely a defensive reptile...and smart...about like a dog or cat. He does recognize people. He is very affectionate to my wife and me...

Best,
Phil
