Hello. New member here, having just acquired my second 5g after a brief affair with a loaded Maverick (see signature). Joined to research service issues and such. Long time owner & collector of vintage compact / midsized pickups. Also spent regular seat time in the Euro Ranger before 2019.

Previous 5g was awesome - very early production loaded 2019 Lariat in hot pepper red. Unfortunately, dealer was unable or unwilling to repair the nasty blend door noise / operation issue (started to occur just as warranty expired). After a brief ownership of a new Maverick, went back to the Ranger with a low mile 2021. Test drive 6 before getting the ‘21
Some things I’ve noticed on 2021 vs 2019:

19 had a very rough cold idle right after startup from day one. Lasted about minute. Dealer could not fix. Only occurred after sitting a long time (overnight). 21 does not do this. Anybody else have rough cold idle?

Mushy / excessive travel brake pedal on ‘21! My ‘19 never had this. Most the Rangers I test drove had the mushy pedal. Alarming. Will do ABS internal bleed with fingers crossed this resolves it. The 3 Ford dealers ai test drove at said it was “normal” (normally “bad”).

My ‘21 has some interesting pandemic-era supply chain deviations. Will post pics later. And I’m not referring to the ongoing decontenting of options and features that happened after 2019.

Only puzzling issue on my ‘21 is that Auto Stop only happens at night. Not during the day. I disabled Auto Stop on my ‘19 by having an LED nightlight plugged into the 110v (have not done this on my ‘19 yet). Very strange. Anybody else here experience auto stop only functioning at night?

Now that you mention this mine does the same. I don't remember the '19 XLT or the '22 Lariat Tremor doing that.

Are you using the AC during the day? If so that's why because it'll disable the auto stop start while the AC is running because of the load it puts on the engine.

I would do a full system brake bleed - you will most likely note a great amount of air from the RR.

As far as the ASS only working at night, if you use a scan tool, there are numerous PIDs regarding the ASS System - I do not recall the exact wording of them, it's a long list.
ASS disabled - Due To (?) and it will have (True or False) Parameters, this may show why it's being disable during the day - I imagine you plan on reinstalling the (Nightlight) but if you are curious for the reason, the above may provide the answer.
I would have to dig into the As-Built files to see if there is a (Day or Night) status setting that ties into the ASS system - this message data ties into the (Headlights and IPC Illumination)
It is strange issue that I have not seen before.

If we back up to the 2019 - Rough Cold Idle, A KAM reset should have cured it, as in (Open-Loop - Cold Engine) the PCM is using stored parameters for engine operational value another tie in would be any of the temp sensors could have been misreading correct temp.

In 2020 Ford did some redesigns one of them being the routing of the PVC hoses.
So curious as to what you are referring - deviations

Welcome back to 5g land Ira! As far as the auto start/stop thing goes I don't have a clue. I'm so old school I shut mine off right after I start my truck. @airline tech, seems to have pretty good quality information on the subject.
Enjoy! 😎🤘

Brakes - get or do a full brake bleed. Cured mine, done under warranty.
A/S/S - get an old useless phone charger, cut off the cord, plug it into the AC outlet in the Ranger. Disables A/S/S.

Great info. And makes sense. Night light went in today and auto stop disabled day and night.
