If you happen to be close to one or can plan a trip to one around other errands, not a bad price. Only offered through online purchases so you have to plan it out.

10R80's are a touchy subject around here. The procedure without Mike's dipstick does make it a chore, but changing my fluid and filter out recently in addition to the dpfe sensor a few months prior had a MASSIVELY positive impact on how my truck shifts.

I'm pretty sure a stock pan / new filter drain and fill only needs maybe 5 quarts possibly a touch more? Sure it is messy but for less than $100 and some time you have assurance everything is as it should be. Hope this helps.

I would only use Valvoline if it's the same cost or ideally less expense than Motorcraft ULV - which goes for $5 and change on Rock Auto and possibly other suppliers.

I just bought a case of Motorcraft ULV on Rock Auto and even without the 5% discount, it was a lot cheaper than $8. Now take a look at the product data sheet here Valvoline ULV Do you see anywhere on it that says it's either licensed by Ford, or even that it meets Ford specs? Nope, it's recommended by Valvoline which is worth pretty much nothing. Just my $.02

I believe that I read that Valvoline was Ford's manufacturer and supplier. I've used it interchangeably with Mercon ULV without an issue.... and I had SEVERE MAJOR transmission issues before multiple fluid changes. Those 3 changes in 2500 miles got me to 92% clean fluid.

Transmission is now behaving perfectly..... knock on wood!

Believe FORD at your peril about Transmission fluid change intervals. They are lying about never needing to change the fluid. By 12K miles my transmission was horrible, by 18K I had stopped driving it as it was too dangerous to trust.

My transmission fluid at 18K miles looked liked used diesel engine oil - black as coal! People will tell you that it is normal.... it isn't.

Do yourself a favor and purchase and install a Fitzstick Transmission dipstick, and change your transmission fluid early and often.

You can even get the level correct with a cold engine and transmission.
  1. Insure truck is level
  2. Start engine and shift from Park to Sport and back at 5 second intervals
  3. Immediately check your fluid level with the Fitzstick
  4. Level should just be just showing at the tip of the dipstick, 1/8" - 3/16" of an inch, NO MORE than 1/4".
This Fluid Level at 215F will read at the diamond between 4 and 5. Dead center of the Ford Spec. I've measured 3 times from 75F to 85F ambient air temps with truck sitting overnight. My original fill was made at 215F and I targeted the middle of the fill range (the diamond between 4 and 5) at the upper window of the temp range 206F-215F.

It is critical that you get the level correct, too much fluid is as bad as too little. The truck will drive fine with a little too much fluid until you stress it, then foaming will began and it will vomit the fluid out the weep hole and overheat the transmission due to the fluid foaming.

Except lots of us have used it with fine results. Valvoline isn't a fly-by-night company.

I'm with @dtech though, unless it is the same price or cheaper than the MC, I'll just use the MC. I change fluid often enough that the money adds up after a while.

Phillips66 I think it was. At least that's what my memory recalls from way back when I originally researched it.

Used valvoline on several autos in the past , in those cases the oem fluid was more expensive, most noteworthy was hyundai where their atf was some $14/qt and wasn't even synthetic whereas Valvoline maxlife is , of course there were some on a Hyundai forum claiming that anything but the oem fluid risked the tranny, they even dredged up a youtube (not from tfl) post made by a college professor claiming maxlife would ruin the tranny, complete non sense, there are slight differences in additive packages but most major atf makers produce similar formulations, provide spec sheets and also supply the oems.
Kudos to Ford for reasonably priced atf and other products.
