That's a great video for "frame of reference". The go pro inside looks like it is sitting still and the tire is only getting bumped, not spun . . .

Ohhh and the vortices' when he removed the valve stem core at the end was pretty cool to see.

as for the balance beads, they do not seem like they would be a solution. more like a bandaid. . .

Yeah, I liked how you could see the sidewall flex at every rotation. As for why they are used, I found this:
" Balancing beads work best for larger tires, such as those on trucks and RVs. This is because larger tires are more susceptible to imbalances, which can cause a rough ride and damage the vehicle’s suspension components over time. "

Or, hear me out. Buy quality tires and get a quality shop to balance them...

:-D

Very cool video, interesting to see how the sidewall really moves around.

I would like to see the video inside a off road truck or a road race tire.

Uh, I'm with him, not sure how the beads work?

I would also like to see the thing spun up on the balancer a bunch of times, just to see what the variance is, .5 of an ounce variance is not bad, but a good tech will make a tire zero's on a good machine.

But then do you add beads to a balanced tire?? Or only to a tire that wont balance without a lot of weight, or wont balance at all?

Dunno, interesting post though, thanks!

I had a 1994 Ford Explorer years ago that had a tire vibration that just would not go away. I put about 4oz.of anti-freeze in the tires for the same basic idea of the beads. It helped a lot, but still vibrated a tad at the right speeds.

I've used those on motorcycle tires but I never noticed a difference in ride one way or another, but I often found a few beads would get stuck in the Schrader valve and hold it open when I was airing-up or down. I'd have to pull the Schrader and clear it, which usually meant letting all the air out and pumping it back up. (I always carry an air pump).

Pain in the arse

Same idea, but theses have been in use for years:

Centramatic balancers

Here's another one. And I apologize in advance because this one is really stupid. I swear I could smell burning rubber while watching it.
