I along with a few others have a few posts in a thread about this. Basically put hardware cloth where the ac intake is under the hood. Also remove the backseats and cove/put hardware cloth over the vents behind the seats. I have confirmed evidence they were in my truck via those back seat vents against the cab wall, so don’t just think blocking the HVAC intake is good enough.

Edit - the thread I’m talking about is the link above this post the other guy posted.

Been using peppermint oil...
I have not had much luck with the oil or mothballs for mice. I think if they are desperate enough for shelter they won’t care. I will say, the chipmunks certainly don’t like the peppermint though from what I can tell

How did you get the carpet off the back wall of the cab? I couldn't see an easy way. Being held on by plastic trim pieces below back window.

I did the vent behind the rear seat back with aluminum gutter guard that I purchased at my local Menards. I only had to do the driver's side, the passenger side is a solid blank on my '21 XLT. The screen is held in place with weatherproof cable ties that are wrapped around the vent slats at the corners.

I’m not the poster you responded to but I did the same thing basically. In my case there was no carpet, behind the rear seat backs is just the insert with flaps and the metal. You should be able to remove the insert by pressing the taps or just tape the mesh/screen on top of it in place.

Can't get to vent because of the carpet overlying it.

Do you have a SuperCab by any chance? Your description sounds like my Scab experience and the SuperCrew is a bit different.

Sorry about that, based on what duke said it looks like the carpet on the back is just in the crew cabs. I thought you meant the carpet below seats. Maybe someone else can chime in with a crew cab who did this.
