I finally got a chance to test drive a manual Bronco a few months ago. The first to second shift was smooth if you slow shifted it, but everything after that was buttery smooth. I am on a wait list for a 2024 Bronco Badlands with the manual transmission. So far, Ford has politely denied building my configuration.

It's a seemingly doable swap in the Ranger, but will require some patience. One unknown is what options are for turning off the automatic transmission settings in the pcm calibration and enabling the manual transmission settings. I would want to see that first before getting into the mechanical bits.

It'd be nice to have a converter lock up control button. Being able to simply not lock up the converter would solve a lot of drive-ability issues like the idiotic parking lot 1-2 (or 1-3)shift surge when your foot is coming off the throttle.
I dont know about yours, but my truck, when in drive just tooling through the neighborhood will shift all the way up to 8th or 9th AND lock the converter at 25mph.

I really like all the features on this little truck, it's almost exactly what I was going to build for myself (earlier Ranger with a 2.3 Turbo Coup engine and AOD trans) but the way this transmission is programmed in normal drive...it's a freakin nightmare.

It's better in trailer mode, which is what I've been doing. Somebody somewhere has got to be reprogramming these shift points and converter lock up points. But I sure cant find them...
If you can i would go and get the new update to the transmission software and have the learning reset, I got it done when I was having the lovely transmission valve body issue and the shifting is definitely different and much more logical. With how computerized everything is in these vehicles it is going to be an extremely difficult and long process to get one in, and you will likely lose a lot of functionality and have to do a load of cutting. It would likely be cheaper to just buy a manual bronco tbh.
