I pressed my homelink button to close my garage today and it sunk in to the trim, now its kinda loose and floppy. i searched and saw this happened to someone else but they were looking to replace the whole visor, which is very expensive. can the button be repaired? does the homelink module just pop out? i dont want to break anything more than it is.

r u using the other 2 buttons ? I have 3 and if one breaks I'll reprogram another. All cars I've have in the past have the buttons on the bottom of the mirror - not a huge fan of on the visor owing to having to put the visor up to operate.

no, not using the other 2 buttons, i was under the impression you could only use the middle, not sure why.

in other news, i just popped off the little panel and i see what and why it broke. it relies on tiny little plastic bits to make it springy and those snapped. you should be able to just buy that panel, its completely separate from the visor and homelink system.

its a shame that ford doesn't sell the buttons/bezel, its a $20 part at MOST and they want you to pay $400 for a whole new visor. its also a terrible engineering solution to rely on those tiny plastic tabs for something you press at least 2x a day.

Beyond stupid- the location of this control, and that it is so frail, and that it is irreplaceable as a component. Then, I bought the ebay part and it doesn't come close to matching. Ford dealer cannot obtain, and homelink folks can't help either. Stupid design, stupid Ford, Stupid dealer. No more for me!!!

Ebay / Salvage Yard - used Visor Assembly, it's not so much Ford not offering the HomeLink separately it's the Vendor that makes it.
It may be possible to pull the HomeLink off and find a part number on the back of it and then Google search that for a possible exact match, they make allot of parts to be universal across the models, sometimes with a little bit of searching across the models find one that has the visor mounted HomeLink module and you can possibly see a way to order it separately.

The problem is when you are looking at Ford Ranger parts, it is an Assembly Only, and sometimes by searching another model with the same HomeLink installed, they MAY list it as a separate part number.

So, getting the installed part number may be a solution and order it under a different model vehicle.

Even better would be a Pick N Pull type yard, find one and just pull it off the visor, but however the 5th Gen is not on those lots yet, at least in my area. I LOVE those types of yards.
