Will the truck throw codes if you get taillights without the bliss system?
Yes.

You can transplant the blind spot sensor into another taillight if you go the used route and find one missing it. Only the LED tail lamps will accept the sensor. The incandescent ones from an XL model without BLIS will not.

I'm away from home and lent my truck to a person I trust... who obviously doesn't know how to effing drive...

EDIT: and thank you all for the much needed comic relief...

Gotta look at the bright side, try to remain positive and think what could have happened if you lent it to a person you didn't trust. You did ask for comic relief........:sunglasses:

Welcome to the club.

Wife was parked when she was swiped by a woman who made too wide a turn to get into a parking space at Walmart. She accepted responsibility verbally but then lied to her insurance saying my wife backed into her. If you saw the damage to her car-dents and scratches along the side of her car-it was clear what happened. My insurance has marked it as her fault but with no police report or witness it is a she said/she said so my insurance will apply.

The accident happened in Canada on our way to Alaska so it is not worth the hassle to pursue.

The estimate is $2400 and my deductible is $1K so I am probably going to replace the taillight with a used BLISS one and work on the scratches myself.

Hopefully the miscreant is female, has tender lips and a healthy bank account.....
Today, Tender Lips shared further incriminating evidence of retardness - see below.

I'm going to share the link to this thread with her so she can see how many other Ranger owners are heartbroken by proxy... and why access to the truck will be restricted to basic and "safe" trips from now on.

Wonder how Many children she has ran over. I mean there is a camera and back up sensors, this was the side of a mountain.
Allegedly they were never triggered!

Oops, it happens. I backed into a stealth iron pole with mine. Bent the right side rear bumper, and it dented the fender in almost the same place (no tailight damage thank goodness). $2300 dollars later it was good as new. It ain't cheap to have a body shop fix cars these days. Good luck, I hope yours is cheaper. And I hope that "good friend" is really a good enough friend, and will offer to pay.

I checked with my insurance agent. She said my insurance would pay, but it would probably cost me more in the long run with increased rates. So, I just came off the hip, and paid it myself.

BTW, I'm sure a lesson was learned. :)

Back in the '90s, some guy backed into my Mom's car in the parking lot, and dented in the driver's-side door pretty well. No big deal, they accepted responsibility, and Dad's cousin owned a dealership, so handled the repairs and loaned Mom a demo in the meantime.

A week or so later, folks' are about two hours late picking me up because as Mom was backing down a friend's (really long) driveway, she got too close to the hedge; well, apparently, she hadn't properly closed the driver's-side door all that well, it clipped the hedge and got ripped open. Dad & friend's husband spent the two hours trying to fold the door back in place as best they could, and had to tie it in place with twine (this was just before Christmas too, so the car was nice & toasty!).

Mom had to call Cousin, who jokingly answered the phone with "Haha, you don't trust me with your car!"; Mom had to meekly reply "No, but you might not trust me with yours anymore..."
