I use the truck mat over the back seats with a blanket underneath. I never carry passengers in the truck. I have the same flat surface as I had in the Tacoma. Actually wider since the mat overhangs over the rear floor.

That will work, but it still a band-aid. Why not address the real issue. My last truck was a Toyota Tundra. It's under the rear seat storage is like I mentioned in my original thread: CLEAN

Tundras are way bigger. So are F150’s so maybe if this was a priority of yours then I guess look bigger? I’m sure a after market thing will come out but man... you know what you signed up for. Mid size

The back seat is up 99% of the time. We put groceries, Costco items and Christmas packages in the back where they are safe. Maybe you would understand better my situation if I gave you an example. We went on a 15 day cruise last November. We, with our luggage had to drive to an international airport 165 miles away. When we returned after our cruise, it was raining cats and dogs at the airport as well as all the way home. If we had placed the luggage in the back of the open truck bed, the suitcases and its content would have been ruined.
This is exactly the reason why I got the https://retrax.com/retraxpro-xr. Expensive, but I had planned to make this one of my first aftermarket accessories because I knew I would need that secure storage space. While it is not 100% watertight, the little bit that does get in there was back nearest the tailgate. You could always put items in some storage tubs to keep the moisture out if need be. The RetraxPro is definitely sturdy and completely secure, especially with the tailgate locked ...probably more secure than leaving something in the truck where someone could just break a window for access. It's also easy to unlock, open and close when you need access.

I also added some TruXedo tailgate seal https://truxedo.com/truxseal to help keep dust and water from getting back there through the tailgate area. Even though the TruXseal seal is labeled as "universal" weather stripping, the space around the Ranger's tailgate and bed is huge, and it really did NOT fit or fill well when following the MFGs instructions. I ended up installing the seal on the bottom length of the tailgate (closest to the bed) and outward sides of the tailgate instead of the bed. There is still a massive gap at the bottom part of the tailgate at the sides. I'm not sure what the best way to seal those areas is yet.
