Stock Ranger Lariat Sport, with OE size 255/65/17 Duelers.
Going to an LT tire with 10 ply rating.
The LT tires in almost all brands, close to my OE size are LT 245/70R/17 which which is very close to OE size.
Next size is a LT 265/70R/17 which is about 1 1/2 inches larger in diameter. The larger tire LOOKS like it will fit with a bit of clearance left.
Anyone running the larger tire size on their 2 wheel drive ???
No lift planned, NO crash bar removal...

I have been thru many posts about larger tires, but all seem to be with the 4 x 4 models.

I’m also interested in this, so someone chime in who knows about tires more than me lol.

I ran a 265/70/17 Duratrac on my FX4 without a lift for a few months, no issues. If anything, I'd expect you to have more clearance up front than I did without the added weight of the 4wd system.

From a perfect side view, the 265/70 will fit...it's the turning from lock to lock that there might be a problem, especially on my 2 wheel drive.
I did find a few posts where someone posted that the 265/70/17 would fit/operate with no problems, but no one actually said "I did it".

Their tire comparison tool is legit. Side by side/overlay and rotations/speedo differences shown.

Thanks, but, no bearing on my Ranger....
Not concerned about weight, rotation, mpg loss, speedo differences, ect...
Only concern is with the slightly larger tire hitting the crash bar and the mud flap when turning lock to lock....and the Toyo front wheel well is totally different from the Ranger.....apples and oranges.
I am going with the LT 10 ply....will use the OE size 245/70 if necessary....just would like to go up one size to the 265/70 if possible, WITHOUT any mod's.

There is zero reason it wouldn't work on a 2wd truck if it worked just fine on a 4wd. As I mentioned, if anything the front end of a 2wd truck would be higher since its lighter overall.

Or this…

https://tiresize.com/wheel-offset-calculator/

That way we won’t have to look at Tacomas.

Steve, it’s diameter and offset that cause the real grief. Sticking with factory wheels eliminates the offset worry. Many of the folks on here that are running the 265/70R17s (31.6”) and reporting no rubbing are levelled by 2” or more.

What you need is solid, honest testimony that folks with stock suspension and no mods are getting the 265s in there without issue. I’m sure there are some and they’ll speak up.

Good luck.

265 70 17 will fit fine and no rubs unless you got a tire that is "large" for its size. not all 265 70 17 are the same dimensions. ive notived coopers typically run a bit tall, bfg a bit short etc.

ive been running 265 70 17 on stock sport rims and stock ford suspension for 25K miles. no rubs no issues. my truck is no pavement princess if something was gonna rub or bump it would have done it by now.

I just ordered Cooper 265/65R17 and will have them installed a week from today. I was going to do the 265/70R17 but decided to go 265/65 for weight and size purposes. There is a 8# difference in the two tires and the diameter is 30.59 with the 265/65 and stock Hankook is 30.5. Close enough for me. We shall see if I did good next Thursday.

I looked at the 265/65 series, but they are the standard or P Metric style...couldn't find that size in an LT with an "E" load rating/10 ply.
Looking at a set of Yokohama AT G015 in either the 245 or 265 x 70...after reading the input, probably go with the LT 265/70/17...has a bit more aggressive tread than the Duelers, but not a "real" off road tire...and my Ranger is strictly for the street.

If it's no good, just send those raptor rims to me?
