Hi Phil,
Your observations and comments I have always enjoyed on other posts they always provide great insight; welcome to mine. Just saw your post. Initially I compared the 2019 and 2020 Owners Manual. This is what caused me to make my initial statement at the start of this thread about not pivoting. Yes, these headrest appear to be larger which in turn does not allow the rear seat back to fold down as in the 2019. If they would pivot, i'm sure the back seat back would go down all the way. The 2019 I had for 4 months had perfect leather stitching and panels. What do you think of the quality in my photo.

Phil,
One other very important thing with respect to the headrest. You referenced MCR....Material Cost Reduction. With 31% of the rear window visibility shielded, what is Ford's liability in a future accident?

Lone, I thing the photo you are refereeing too is a 2019.
I screen captured the picture from a dealership in stock that was listed as a 2020. I also cropped out the front seats which did not have the RANGER embossed on the back rests. Pretty sure it's a 2020, but you can never be sure.

The Ford CEO recently said they’d start doing more decontenting at the same time as attempting to raise ATP to improve profits. How reducing features will motivate people to pay higher transaction prices I have no idea, but that’s his technique. I think they also took away the front parking sensors on certain XLT packages.

Hi Bob,

Any MCR goes through a review process and must have sign off by Automotive Safety Office as well as other internal review activities, so I would say that Ford meets what ever standards apply to the rearward vision...Do not forget that Semi and many Class A motorhomes and delivery trucks, like the Ford Transit have no rear view out a back window as just the side mirrors are used... I am not familiar with NHTSA requirements for rearward vision...

Just returned from the Ford agency. The service writer stated that they will replace all of the wrinkly leather seats both front and rear. That is great news. About my rant about the rear seat headrest: After putting 90 miles on the truck, I now feel like Hounddog409 that the rear view is not so impeded, it will be fine. I guess I made a big deal over nothing remembering the headrests in the 2019.

I'm happy you are back in a Ranger and don't want to add to your woes, but since you brought it up . . . my 2019 Lariat Crew stoned leather seats are nice and flat. Yours look like they're all bunched up - kinda like they were fitted by a vision impaired worker on a Friday. Could be I'm wrong and it's just the picture. I hope. Headrests look about the same.

I saw that too but thought it was just a weird picture. My Lariat is trampoline tight.

My first 2019 had rear headrests that didn't fold. I did a lemon replacement in Feb of '19 and the new truck had folding rear headrests. You've confirmed that other 2020's on the dealer lot don't fold either?

If you had read my posts in the passed, you will remember I am the guy with the 2019 Ranger LEMON. Ford repurchased it after the truck was in the Ford Dealership 12 times for a total of 16 days with an unsolvable electronic problem. The truck was turned in on July 13th. I ordered a 2020 on the same day. It arrived on December 16th at 2:00 PM (but who is counting). Great to be back in the drivers seat. No obvious changes except the owners manual is 25 pages shorter and the rear seat Head Restraints NO LONGER PIVOT TO ALLOW FULL VIEWING OUT, USING THE REAR VIEW MIRROR. BAD REDESIGN!
OOoff…. That's a shitty deal. I can't stand when they're up. I pulled the center one out the first day I owned the truck and it's been in my garage ever since. Glade you're back in a Ranger though! Hopefully you'll have better luck this time with a later production! :like:
