RICE is RIGHT! But the Ice and compression is only initially used to stop and remove swelling. Then it transitions to RHE. Rest Heat Elevate. Heat gets the blood to the wound to aid in healing... according to my Doc. It also makes my wound hurt more too!

But the Ice sure felt great. I wanted to keep icing it... but Doc wasn't having it!

Yeah ice is just at first. After that heat to keep/help the circulation at the wound to help carry the pooled blood away so your body can get rid of it.

Latest update: I am walking rather gingerly. Back from the Doctor yesterday. The net of it all is this.

I have a serious internal hemotoma on my left inside knee. I most likely have a torn muscle and damaged an artery which caused a very deep big hemotoma which is pressing against the return vein to my left leg. So blood goes down the artery, but the hemotoma is pressing against the vein restricting blood returning from the leg, causing the leg and foot to swell.... a LOT! I keep a heat pad on 3x / day, and keep it elevated above my heart 5 x / day for an hour or so. I confess that I am bored out of my mind.

The infection appears to be getting better, and we are closely monitoring it. The Cipro appears to be working on the infection as the redness is fading. I have at least another month of this pain ahead and the Doc says it may take 3-4 months to fully heal. The swelling will last at least that long. I have to watch out for Thrombosis issues due to the inhibited circulation.

The right leg bruising is finally starting to fade, but the muscles and tendons were stretched. I can walk but if I place too much pressure on the leg the tendons scream at me. Cipro exasperates this issue as it softens the tendons for months after taking it.

The Doctor again stressed how fortunate I was that this was the full extent of my injuries.

I guess God watches over even fools such as I.

I do feel fortunate, and as always, I thank God for each day that I am here with my bride.

Life is very good!
God bless you!

My son in law is approaching 11 years on his new liver! Left on this earth long enough, we are all going to face adversity. There is simply no getting around it.

My mantra - Life is messy! It just is. Deal with it. Learn to love, forgive, and accept (Note that I did not say condone.) And be humble.

You ever look on the back of a Wall Tapestry? The fronts are magnificent, but the backs are a mishmash of threads going everywhere for no apparent rhyme or reason! Sometimes I get the feeling that we only see the backs of things and miss out on the beauty of God's creation.

There is a plan, a reason, even it we do not see it!

We picked up the new tractor today. Tractor Supply rented us a 5' x 10' trailer for the day for $15! What a bargain!

It's a Cub Cadet and it is YELLOW!

Cub Cadet Xt2.webp

23 hp twin cylinder Kohler motor, 46" cut. Fabricated mowing deck (not stamped), 1" diameter axles. Ball bearing hubs. Proven reliable Hydrostatic transmission. I had them add a Mulch Kit and spare set of blades.

I asked then about getting chrome hubcaps... that drew a laugh.

I'm gonna try to keep the shiny side up this time around! Wife insists, and will be closely watching.

Left knee is slowly shrinking, but legs and feet are still swollen enough to make wolking any distance uncomfortable. Left knee is still painful, and right hamstring is tender.

But I drove the 2005 Ranger down to pick it, and it was a nice trip. Legs were fatigued by the time I arrived home.

My Wheelhorse is going on Johnny Bucket loader duty in the summer and plow blade in the winter. Mower Deck is coming off and going on the wall.

So it was a very nice day here in central North Carolina.

Congrats on the new mower (keep the shiny side up) and glad to learn of your slow but steady recovery.

Yep, I owe them a great deal. The fellow that assisted me went in for elective knee replacement 3 days after my accident. We are healing at about the same rate.

The bruising is now gone. The weakness in both hamstrings is still very evident, and the left inside knee swelling is down 80%. Left leg is still swollen, but not as bad.

I can't sit back on a seat for very long as the back thighs start to ache, so I sit on the edge of chairs. Such is life.

I am still healing and have become mobile, but I am no where near as mobile as before... but it will come. I welcome the day when I simply get up and walk without thinking about it!

I woke up this morning to a 65F AM temperature (Going back up to 103F by Friday). Both legs aching. But it was the perfect time to change the oil in the Ranger. Limped over to the medicine cabinet and took 2 advil... waiting 20 minutes and the pain magically disappeared! This is the first pain meds I have taken since the accident. I don't like taking anything if I can help it.

Anyway out to the garage, and moved the truck into lift position. Raise it up, pushed my oil capture tank into position, and opened the ValvOmax. I put a brass tube extension on the end of the clear tube for weight so the hose would hang straight. Didn't need to remove the shield either.

Once the oil was flowing I moved to the filter and removed it. Added oil to the new filter and tightened it up. Went back under to find the oil had completed draining. So I removed the drain tube and attached the cap. All done, and no oil on me or the ground.

I did notice oil coming from my lift, and tomorrow I pull off the covers to see what the problem is. It is not a big leak, but any leak is enough to warrant a repair. 20 Year old lift bought new and never had a problem until now.

Adding new light to my new Cub Cadet XT2 tomorrow. Then it is lift time!

6 weeks and I am approaching normal... probably at 75%, but I am now functional!

Life is good. God is good. And I am blessed to still be here!
