Incorrect.

Gas and Diesel are made from trees from the time when bacteria and fungus were not developed enough to use lignin as a carbon source. Thus all the forest of earth did not rot when trees died and got buried in the ground where millenias in heated bedrock, without oxygen, the lingin turned to oil and gas.

So, oil & gas is pretty much vegan.

Misconception #3142:
Sinclair Oil Corporation has long used a Brontosaurus named Dino as its mascot, the association being that dinosaurs morphed into crude oil. Brontosaurus excelsus did indeed roam the western US 150 million years ago, and was a herbivore (vegan), but I don't think that enough bronto poop was made to get compressed into oil.

But from a marketing standpoint, Dino is probably more identifiable than say, a Jurassic-era fern.
