Coming soon: [Admin: No Covid, Politics or AI!]
Plot twist: The Admin IS an AI and commentary is banned because it hits too close to the truth...

How do we really know that no computer has yet passed the Turing test?

What if it fails on purpose?

What will we do then?

You put WAY, WAY, WAY too much confidence in the 'intelligence" of computers. There is no real AI, it is just fancy math and advanced predictive algorithms - they have no idea what they are actually writing.

Based on the people you see out and about nowadays, I'd say a Commodore 64 has the upper hand on most of them.

Also, since you are an admin, are you really you?

Or are you an AI?

Hmmm...

i agree. however the problem with the situation is the foolish picklebrains that use the tech typically have no idea what they are actually reading...

Well, I'm a mod, not an admin (there is a difference).

And if you only knew how limited AI is you'd understand. That is one reason it is so scary - people THINK it has real intelligence - it has none. It has no concept of what it is talking about.

The scary part, IMO is the importance that so many people put on this "intelligence". I just read something today where a lawyer had to apologize to a judge for submitting a legal brief that was written by chatGPT and apparently it was a mess.

I'm very aware of it.

I hope you weren't taking my posts as being serious.

With 20+ years in IT I've been around a few computers.

That also means I sling a lot of sarcasm, which doesn't always come across that well on the interwebz ?

I've got over 30 years of IT experience and it wasn't until recently I learned exactly HOW limited current "AI" (I put that in quotes for a reason) is. When you really know what it is, it is terrifying - and not because of the technology, it is peoples perceptions of what it is and how much faith/weight they put in it. It really is nothing more than an advanced parlor trick.

It is kind of a hot button for me these days....... Apologies for any over reaction.

I guess we ARE in a joke thread...... But with how often we go off topic......

AI designers should loan from the nature and compartmentalize the AI with different set of inputs. For example our brain has 180 different "processors" of which some are connected to actual input/output, some work on neurochem level and some are just connected to other processors.

btw: Our biggest nerve cell concentration is in our gut, so the "guy on the top" actually gets his commands from there.
