Day when I became old was... today.

I was at the shopping mall returning few bags of bottles* and there was this new invention.. automatic large volume bottle return machine**. Instead of rushing to it I just looked at it like "I'm not trusting that machine" and instead wen't towards the traditional one bottle at the time machine with belt feed and bar code reader (which failed at the first attempt and required the staff to clean it for like 10 minutes). The young guy behind me (40'ish) asked me that "you're not using this?" and rushed to the new machine.

So I watched the process (dump all bottles, press button, pick up receipt) had an awkward chit chat on "what do they invent next" and decided to go for it. Worked fine, got the receipt.

While filling the bin the little engineer in me decided to peek at the innards and analyze the machine. It was a standard tilted axis rotary collector, double feed arrestor with combined belt feed, bar code reader and a 5 feed sorter of the bottle type with bottle position aligner and transfer belt to collection area. Standard stuff, pretty solid mechanical feed/sorter machine.

Never ever have I been hesitant to utilize new stuff. So today the jokes on me, I'm certified old. Let's drink to that.

* = We have this system where every bottle or can has .10-.50$ deposit on counter refunded on return. Makes 99.95% of the bottles/cans return back to factory either by the user or by someone else.

** = For plastic bottles and cans only. Glassware to be returned with the old one-by-one system (they'd break on the tumbler).

Looked for the you lost me moji but couldn't find it. So the jokes probably on me. ?
Just example of after laughing years for older people not figuring out basic stuff, you realize that you're the one not figuring (or willing to figure) it out. And having bunch of people around laughing about how the older people do not figure things out.

Technical term would be faulty activation of brain circuit directing goal-driven learning pathways causing flexibility problem applied to goal-directed action.

The popular and common IT error codes are:

PEBKAC = Problem Exists Between Keyboard And Chair

Or the favorite, the ID-Ten-T error code = IDIOT

I completely resemble that remark.
