Flatulence, farting, wind, gas, whatever you wish to call the emissions we humans make, there is no escaping the inescapable, despite the efforts of most to do so.

As it turns out, farting has been long been cause for laughter, as demonstrated in the 12th century court of English king, Henry II, who had a jester known as "Roland the Farter".

Also known as Rowland le Sarcere, Roland le Fartere, Roland le Petour – word of his talent clearly spread throughout the kingdom – the jester essentially had just one role to fulfill in his monarch's court.

Every Christmas, Roland was required to perform a dance that ended with "one jump, one whistle, and one fart". There was one small catch: the three were to be performed simultaneously.

For this contribution to the royal festivities, Roland the Farter was awarded a manor house in Suffolk and 100 acres of land.

Unfortunately, both gifts were taken back when a less amused Henry III succeeded the throne and described Roland's acts – or act – as "indecent".

High fat diets can be disastrous, and none of us realizes the long-term harm caused by the germs in our drinking water. However, there is one thing that is the most dangerous of
all and we all have eaten, or will eat it. Can anyone here tell me what food it is that causes the most grief and suffering for years after eating it?'

After several seconds of quiet, a 75-year-old
man in the front row raised his hand, and softly said,

'Wedding Cake.'​
