Help with P0456

Hey All, Just purchased my 2020 ford ranger with 750 miles on it. Two days later I had my check engine light come on took it to a local auto store and had code P0456 FordPass says Engine system detected a Fault. Truck drives just fine and i havent seen any decrease in MPG in the limited time i have owned the truck.

Only thing i can find so far is it could be the purge valve? Where exactly is it located?

I doubt this malady is going to fix itself. I recommend taking the truck to the dealer for diagnostics and hopefully a robust repair... This code should be mentioned. Did you reset it?

No I did not reset the code, the CEL was off when I left for work this morning. I have an appointment tomorrow so hopefully it’s nothing serious. Checked the forums for a similar issue but I must be the first

Likely came on as a soft code due to a sensor flaking out. If so then CEL will shut off after several ignition cycles or if said sensor is providing data in the accepted range it's programmed for. Chances are the code may still be stored even though the light is no longer on. Definitely do mention the code to them when you take it in. They may check it out and if everything is good at that time not do anything other than clearing codes and tell you to bring it back if it returns. A proactive service dpt. may go ahead and replace parts on the first visit but it's not common if the system fault is not active when you take it in.

I had this code come on the other day.

I have fiberglass bedsides so the capless filler neck is exposed which I didn't think about until I went offroading and got mud all over it. I cleaned it before putting gas later that day, but about a month later my CEL came on which had this code.

I looked into it and saw that people have had just enough dirt get around the rim of the flap that goes in on the filler and cause the flap not to properly seat all of the way so there is no vacuum which causes the CEL. The fix is to get a slightly damp rag and wipe down where the flap is.

Did this yesterday and the CEL was off today.

Appreciate the feed back I’ll have to try that next time. My cel has stayed off after a couple fill ups I have not had the cel come back
