I just bought some new wheels for my 1988 Lincoln Mark VII.

I am used to buying tires for trucks and I need some help deciding on what tires to get for the Lincoln.

The size I’m going for is 245/50/17.

I work at Walmart and can get a discount on the tires so that helps.

I have it narrowed down to these two. If you guys have other suggestions let me know.

The Lincoln is not an everyday driver and is my fun project car. It has a H.O mustang engine in it.

Depending on the width of your thrust style wheels and how much of a side wall you want.
Personally on that particular style vehicle and those wheels.. I might want a 265/30r17
If the wheels are 17x8.5 or 17x9..

I should’ve started with..
What are the currents wheel and tire specs?
And.
What is the specs on the fancy new wheels you have (17x??)? That way mentally it’s easier to picture if you’d be stretching a narrow tire in a wider wheel or vice versa..
::side note::
Seems like you’re going for a lux muscle mod style.. even though I could be wrong about that can’t wait to see what that linc mk7 will look like on your wheel choice…

Between the choices of brands I’m partial to the continentals..(but they are a touch more expensive.)
Had some TOYO tires on my evo (when I had my second evo 8) and well the Toyo went bald like a young man with a long family history of male pattern baldness. (Having said that.. it was years ago and my spirited driving definitely played a significant role?)

Those wheels will look great on it. Looks like the continentals are not much more for the higher quality.

I’ve had good luck with General Altimax RT45. They are priced well and have great all weather traction! Before my Ranger, I had an 05 Town Car and I preferred them over Michelins on that car.

I should have mentioned the exact wheel size. The new ones are 17x8.

The stock wheels are 15x6.

The reason for the size I picked is that it matches the stock size almost exactly, so the speedometer will not be off.

Also anything bigger may rub on my exhaust.

I was playing around with sizes and the offset I found with a google search of 25 on the 16x7 spokies (allegedly on the 88 mk7), also the 15x6 size you mentioned and I tried to zoom in on the wheels and made the guesstimate that the pictured tires are 215/70r15…
Also I went poking around on a mk7 forum ? with a slightly lowered mk7 yeah in the front 245/45r17 a post on there mentioned having issues rubbing however the rear seems to be wide open up to 275’s …(those guys seem to like running I guess a staggered tire sizes:: front a smidge slimmer than the rears::)

this is the forum post I am referencing.

how this helps and doesn’t over complicate your decision process ?

Looks like your sweet spot for the tire size will yeah be 245/50r17 or 255/45r17 with a 17x8 wheel.. now this I guess is where you will have to worry about the offset of your new wheels as well… good luck brother post pic when you finally slap those new shoes on that mark 7 (pretty exciting

also if it’s not a daily toyos might save you a couple bucks even though the conts are a bit better quality.. I’d say make that decision based on your budget if you got the extra and don’t mind splurging get better quality if you need to be more thoughtful about the spending go for the reasonable quality but lesser cost so you can still eat good food.?
