I use a BedRug because I don't use my truck for heavy work (I do tow a travel trailer). Originally it had an OEM drop in liner. I cut the sides and front off that and saved the bottom and wheel well sections so I can slide that back in temporarily if I have to carry something that would make a mess of the BedRug.

No protection, just the factory metal bed floor with a tonneau cover.

I went with a spray in bed-liner by Mil Spec. I also use a rubber bed mat on top of it to keep things from sliding around and it also makes it much easier to kneel on because the texture is very course.

I had the dealer put a spray in bed liner when I bought it as part of my negotiation, I’ve scratched through it once in 11 months with a chip about the size of two quarters but I’m extremely harsh on it and have some pretty sharp and heavy cargo all the time. It was easy enough to repair, all I did was sand it down and spray with a $10 can of spray in bed liner from Walmart once a day for a week in the summer. The color doesn’t match but it’s pretty sealed up and hasn’t chipped again, and I don’t care how pretty it looks under the tonneau. Usually there’s a good bit of mud and random stuff back there and it’s really scratched up. But my friends always joke and say if you got a clean truck bed it means you got soft hands so maybe that motivates me to keep it dirty and scratched

Grandpa didn't have a bed liner in Ole Blue, Dad doesn't have a bed liner in his truck. Apparently I am that old school. Just like some dirt and grime on my truck, paint scratches in the bed...........
Gives it character.

Rehashing my previous statement, two days after I posted this I found myself researching drop in bed mats and purchased one from Rough Country.

I had a drop in back in the 80's (Toyota) and that's all it took to NEVER have a drop in again. Spray baby, spray...
No rattle, no slip sliding away...

The dealer had mine sprayed in. Some local company that did a s%&@!× job. Id rather have the paint color showung like my other 2 rangers. Do still use the factory bed mat. I am okay with scratches, the dents are hard to keep out.

BedRug protects both the bed and your knees.

That does look nice, comfy on knees too. If I didn't carry wet stuff often, it'd be a good choice for me.

The BedRug doesn't slide around and scuff the bed. It's a form of indoor/outdoor carpeting so water doesn't hurt it. The plastic drop-ins are a no-go for me, too.
