Hello,
I wanted to share a good video I found on YouTube which helped me out a lot with making the decision on LED replacement vs "Whiter" Halogen for the XLT Headlights. The linked video shows whiteness vs brightness on quite a few bulbs. The chart seems accurate based on the two bulbs I tried.
The LED bulb that led me to the Halogen rabbit hole was the Autoone H11 bulb. It was very white and bright, excellent there but the hot spots and dark spots were annoying. It seemed that I would have similar issues with many of the bulbs that will fit under the stock dust caps and quite frankly I was spending WAY to much time looking at LED bulbs and threw in the towel. I say this in part because I will be adding Baja Designs Squadron Sport fog and ditch lights and from experience know that these will over power my headlights anyway.
I settled on the Sylvania Silverstar ZXE Gold which seem very much white, especially when the oem fog lights are on. Best part was the light pattern was great/oem like. There is a hair of a warm color but it for sure is a lot cooler and basically white. Coming from a vehicle that had LED to the Ranger with halogen took be back to the '90s and no longer do I feel that way lol. Approaching the vehicle from the outside they do not look warm at all, very white for sure.
Quick note, the video only shows the standard ZXE which could technically be more white than the ZXE Gold, I just didn't want to regret not spending the extra $15 on the Gold when these were both quite expensive.
I tried the Phillips Diamond Vision first before finding this video and man, they for sure were white, actually a bit blue but WAY more dim than OEM. I DO NOT recommend these.
I plan on purchasing the Phillips X-tremeVision and CrystalVision as backup bulbs. Whichever I like most will go into the daily driver spot and the rest will be backup. The main downside to all of these white brighter bulbs is that they have a lifespan reduction from stock. How long they will last in your use will depend on how many hours they are on. On Amaxon either of the Phillips are basically less than half the price of the ZXE Gold.
Anyway, hope this helps save others time as I wasted WAY TOO much time of my life on this subject.
