If you are within the 5/60 then you should be good with the powertrain warranty. That said what @Msfitoy and myself were discussing were two totally different things. His was the Transmission. Mine was a totaled truck after hitting a Cow..... I mean Chupacabra!
I thought Chupacabra were small lol?

Sounds like the turbo bearing/ shaft failed. How many miles do you have? Notice any overhating before it popped?

@Msfitoy & @Conman50, I'm a little under 81k km on a 100k km warranty, so I'll be calling the dealership first thing Monday morning, assuming of course that I've limped home by then.

No, I didn't notice any overheating.

Hi all,

I've been without internet access all day, so haven't been able to post an update.

About 10 minutes after I first posted, I managed to find a mechanic that was open; I was in backwoods Tennessee at the time (cue banjo music). Anyway, he was able to run the diagnostic scan, and it's my turbo that crapped out. He checked the connections, and they all seem secure, so it's something with the turbo itself.

The good news is that I'm able to limp my way home, I just have to drive as if I were towing at near-max capacity. I can move along, but my acceleration sucks, especially on uphills. At least I can get the truck home to have it looked at by my local dealership, instead of trying to find one on the road.

I've made it about halfway home, and am in northern WV for the night. Limping along sucks, but on the bright side I'm less likely to get a speeding ticket (watch Karma come and take a huge chunk out of my rear tomorrow!)

Thanks to everyone for your responses, and thanks @DukeCanBuildit for the text messages and the heads up about the storm. Hopefully that won't give me too much trouble. I'll let y'all know when I make it back.

@Msfitoy, your response worries me; would this get covered by the powertrain warranty? God, I hope so; I still haven't paid off Santa's bill.
glad you are able to still make it home. maybe drive in sport mode and manually shift so you can get some power back

I was in sport mode shifting manually when it happened, because we were in the mountains, and it didn't really help much. Finally, I let the computer take charge so that I wouldn't overwork it; I tend to be a bit of an aggressive driver.

According to Google, it was supposed to be a AAA Care Centre, but when we showed up it was anything but. According to the guy, it hasn't been that for 4-5 years, and he's been trying to get Google to update it. Still, he offered to run the scan, and didn't charge me for it either, which was really nice of him.

That's cause he was the one playing the banjo.

Glad that you’ll be able to make it home and get it looked at here. Safe travels for the rest of your journey!
