I used the LUX bright white magnetic LED's (8 of them)...Routed the cables thru the frame rails, using straightened coat hanger with cable end taped to the hanger.
I left 1' to 1.5' of slack for each cable wadded up within the frame rails for every light , giving me the ability to easily reposition at any time for better coverage..
Used conduit shielding on the bunched up wires when I routed up into the engine bay....It took me alot more time doing it this way, would have been much easier to zip tie to the frame rails...but I have nothing exposed to hang up on branches or be crushed on rocks...

That is very key...I have two camera under the truck and use them with the rock lights to see where the tires are off road...and as you mentioned, servicing when the whole underside of the truck is BIG bonus...

You think some lights are going to save you from a semi that can't stop in the snow while you're outside the car foolin' around??

Small piece of advice from a guy who's worked accidents, including fatal ones on a highway... if there's shit weather just call the tow and sit in the truck man.

Hell, I think we even get roadside assistance with these trucks for free. Use it. If it's a sunny day and you have a nice wide median, go nuts, anything less call the wrecker and let them park behind you and change it. The $100 bucks or whatever isn't worth getting killed over the inconvenience even paying out of pocket.

Idiots, like flies, are drawn to flashing lights. If they crash into PD cruisers lit up like Christmas trees your little 'rock lights' ain't doin' shit, believe me.

I was teasing before, this is honest talk now.

work crash sites for years... anything that will make you seen is better than being in the dark.

plus being on there i have some light to replace a tire at 3 am in the morning...

2020 here with 65k on it roadside is long gone and if not not waiting 3 hours for a driver to change a flat

and the semi driver did not see them standing....

and why do you hate rock lights so much ?

Because they're ridiculous. You've never heard of a flash light, head lamp, set of road flares?

It's your truck man, good luck on the side of the road at 3am, be safe.

Rock lights are one thing. But for what you posted above, you need emergency road flares if you want to warn traffic.

Limited-time deal: Ecoangel USB Rechargeable LED Road Flares Emergency Lights-Roadside Warning Car Safety Beacon Flashing Disc Flare Kit with Magnetic Base for Vehicles & Boat | 3 Beacon Disc Pack https://a.co/d/7WIo6Sj
have road flares and hi viz in the truck all the time. the lights are just a added security

There is a phenomenon called "target fixation " or "driver fixation " which claims that something like a light or flashing light can cause you to drive right into it ? ...

I have used mine 3 times in the last year...
On an after dark solo "short cut" trip thru the desert from Superstition towards Plaster City I lost track of the road-trail and was on compass navigation in open desert, ,, I got high centered crossing a sand wash and had to perform a self recovery with shovel and traction boards..
Next time was at the SMORR daily fee ORV park got talked into doing one of the technical trails at night with the help of a spotter....Third was for grins , small city version of mall crawl'n...drove by the Bowling Alley and thru the City Park on a Friday or Sat night where all the High school kids hang out....?.....

Somewhere out there between where my truck is in the picture and mountains in the back ground is where I got stuck later that night...
