Just thought I'd post this up in case someone else is looking for the same type of board as myself... something that will protect the rocker from being sandblasted and add a step without sticking out too far.

I really liked the look of the RB10 and RB20 style boards but they were just a little too wide for my liking. I found the D6 and completely overlooked the DSS until my wife saw it and showed me. I work at a CarQuest store so I decided to order a set of each to see which I'd like better. After seeing the two side by side I'm leaning toward the narrower DSS but that could change once I see them attached to the truck.

I will try to get some on-truck comparison photos tonight, but I have to be very careful with them as one set will have to be returned! Despite it's smaller size, the DSS box was actually about 5lbs heavier than the D6 (~85lbs vs ~80lbs)

Here are some photos of them to compare out of the box but unfortunately still wrapped in plastic:

Another thing I forgot to mention is the step plate on the DSS is removable but it isn't on the D6. I think it might look pretty nice colour matched to the truck to stand out a little.

So I was a little later getting at the boards than I had originally planned. After holding the D6 up to the truck I didn’t even bother with a test fit, they were waaaay too wide for my liking. They are a full 3” wider than the DSS that I put on.

I’m happy with them. Ideally they would be about 1/2” to 3/4” wider but that can be fixed by making some sort of spacer but I think I will use them as-is for now.

It’s just enough that it can be used as a step but not so wide that it really bothers me to step over getting out, plus it protects the rocker and gives me a place to knock snow and mud off my boots in the winter. I’ll try to get some better daytime pictures tomorrow!

Thanks, really like those.. would you mind a daylight shot from the side to see how much of the pinch weld section shows on the truck?

Those look great! Good choice going with the DSS I think the D6 would've been to wide.

I'm about to post a couple daytime photos but they're not a good angle to show the pinch weld. I can tell you though that 100% of the pinch weld still shows. These have two heights you can bolt them at and I chose the higher one, it's about 3/8" from the top of the board to the bottom of the pinch weld.

I'll try to get a good side shot, hopefully later today!

I agree, these are tucked in just a little narrower than the factory wheels/tires.

Here's a couple more shots!

So I completely forgot about the side shot until the truck was washed and in the garage and it was dark out... sorry! I did take a quick pic of the top of the board and the small gap below the pinch weld. The pinch weld is still 100% visible from the side of the truck.

I just ordered the DSS. What level of protection do these provide for off-roading?

Mack

I like the wider personally if only for the "idiot in the parking lot" door ding protection. Rather they end up hitting their door on the rails and stay far away from actual sheet metal.

Thanks for the screen shots, that was helpful as I look.

I’d say they could definitely take a hit but I wouldn’t want to try and support the whole side of the truck with them like you could with a frame mounted slider. These still mount to the rocker panels like a regular step bar.

I thought about that, but most other vehicles around here are trucks and SUVs so they’d swing their doors above the boards anyways. I take the “park and walk” approach!
