While on the topic of the app, if you have a tire go low after parking, will you get a notice in the app, or do you just have to wait until you are about to leave to see the flat or a notice on the dash in the truck? To me if I got a notice over night that I saw in the morning I could better prep to deal with it before going to drive somewhere only to find a flat.

With adding "features" like this makes me wonder if they are going to start moving away from key fobs in general or only giving a single fob with new vehicles. Maybe use NFC or bluetooth connectivity to authenticate the phone to the truck for starting in place of the transponder fobs. Kind of makes sense since virtually everyone has a smartphone these days why not make use of them like that.

Tried this on mine this AM and after pressing and holding the icon it worked...says it will activate for a few seconds. Disabled it with the key fob panic button. I keep the key fob close by at night and ready to activate the panic button in case I hear any suspicious activity in or around my house. The panic button is also helpful if someone is messing with your truck in a parking lot or if you forget where you parked.

I understand that most people have phones but not everyone does, and some wish they could do away with theirs. Plus I don't have the patience to get my 85 year old Dad up to speed on this kind of technology, so I really hope it doesn't come to (Ford) pass ?

Looks like technology is headed that way and a continual learning curve. Just got a new Galaxy and it has some new and additional features (to sync and operate with other devices) that the 4 year old one it replaced didn't have. It's convenient though sometimes to have a manual backup such as a key fob in addition which is a quicker response than opening the phone :)

That is true. There are enough people out there that using a smartphone to regularly access/start the car would be less than ideal. Then there's still the matter of making sure it would not only work 100% of the time, but not be able to be hacked by anyone with a smart phone. Would be a nightmare if your truck could be easily registered to another device and driven off so some sort of limits on activation/MFA would need to be implemented to prevent any unauthorized access.

Then there's the whole dropping the vehicle off at the dealer issue. You would need to remember to bring the physical fob each time. ?

Yeah and then comes the subscription based features and glitches too. I'm glad I have a regular fob and key. If the battery goes dead I can still unlock and start my truck.

How do I use the Horn and Lights feature?
To use the Horn and Lights function:

  • You must have a vehicle added to the FordPass™ app.
  • Your vehicle must have the SYNC®/FordPass Connect™ modem.
  • Feature is only available on select vehicles.
  • Your embedded modem must be activated.
This feature allows you to activate the lights and horns for five seconds, which is very useful when searching for your vehicle in a parking garage. To activate this feature:

  1. Navigate to the Home landing page.
  2. Locate your remote commands bar.
  3. Press and hold the Horn icon for five seconds.
  4. A pop-up message will appear.
    • Select Confirm to complete the action.
    • Select Cancel to void the action.
  5. If you select Confirm, the success banner should appear.
  6. The lights and horns will be active for 5 seconds.
Note: For Mustang Mach-E vehicles, the Horn and Lights feature was recently updated to include the following:

  • Command access when within Bluetooth® range.
  • Command access when outside of Bluetooth range.
  • Command access when Phone As A Key has not been set up.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if Ford tried to follow Toyota in that. But then Toyota did get a pretty big rash of crap when they announced the subscription thing, so who knows.

In the past I've seen notifications in app for a wide range of things, from panic braking, to the front sensor not working, to a tire with low PSI. Granted I do not know how much of that gets sent out as a notification on a smartphone but checking inside the app though you will definitely see these notifications. As to when you get them, I'm not sure how often these vehicles report back to FordPass app.
