Ford and I assume others have two-way telematics going in the background, separate from the Remote start and other consumer connectivity features. For instance, they can count how many times the Universal Garage Door Opener (UGDO) is used; one of the contributing factors in moving it from standard in the Lariat to the 501 high package. They can track how often the ASS is turned off or deleted Also dozens of other operating parameters. are available to look at. Disabling or not doing updates would only affect "our side" of the connectivity. What if you just disabled automatic updates? Is that possible?
No the FordPass app is free for life. They might change this in the future but hopefully we're still grandfathered in.Hey, new owner please inform me. Do you have to pay for FordPass? When I asked the head salesman he was very evesave, something about 90 days. Will I get a request in mail? Is it tied to Sirius XM?

The Ford Pass App is free. FordConnect, the mechanism and telematics that drive it are free. FordConnect will always be free, because that is how they data mine the vehicles. FordPass may at some point have some features that aren't free anymore; probably not as severe as what I posted in #40. SiriusXM is initially free, varies by model, then becomes a paid subscription. This includes the music/podcast channels and the add-on POI app (where can I find sushi? etc).No the FordPass app is free for life. You could set the AC to max when you exit, and adjust the climate control to "last setting"hide it in my truck payment , I would consider a small fee in the summer if I could app my windows up and down , maybe , and control the fan , it should blow max air when it's 400 degrees inside my truck and I app start it ...
I remember reading though that when I got the truck this winter for the heat settings but forgot about the AC part ? I may try that today , it's pretty hot, I already went out and cracked my windows a bit... Thanks ?!You could set the AC to max when you exit, and adjust the climate control to "last setting"
so that when the truck starts, it will be on Max AC.
REMOTE START (IF EQUIPPED)
You can switch this feature on or off and adjust the settings using the information display controls. See Information Displays.
The climate control system adjusts the interior temperature during remote start.
You cannot adjust the climate control setting during remote start operation. Switch the ignition on to make adjustments.
Based on your remote start settings, the following vehicle-dependent features may or may not remain on after remote starting your vehicle:
Note: For dual zone climate controlled seats, the passenger seat setting defaults to match the driver seat during remote start.
- Climate controlled seats.
- Heated steering wheel.
- Heated mirrors.
- Heated rear window.
- Windshield wiper de-icer.
Automatic Settings
If Auto is on, the system sets the interior temperature to 72°F (22°C) and heats or cools the vehicle interior as required to achieve comfort.
Note: In cold weather, the heated rear window and heated mirrors turn on.
Last Settings
If Last Settings is on, the system uses the settings last selected before you turned off the vehicle.
Heated and Cooled Features
In Auto mode, certain heated features may switch on during cold weather, and cooled features during hot weather.

It will be free for life. They'll leave a couple useless features up there like tire pressure and oil life and now you're going to have to pay for the good features like remote start and location.I called Ford and they are also eliminating the vehicle location feature in this move. I am disappointed because my auto insurer gives me a discount if this continually displays on the App in case the truck is stolen and they need to recover it. The rep. did say that the Ford Safety division has the same 24/7 location tracking info. available and can be contacted by the Ins. carrier to get the location of the vehicle. I need to contact my carrier to see if this is acceptable.
I asked her if these features were being removed so they could be retained on a subscription basis and she gave a definite no but said this change is only for the purpose of removing some features and adding others. She didn't know the reason for Ford doing this.
LIke Dave @AzScorpion mentioned that FordPass App is supposed to be free for life and hopefully this will not change and they won't sneak in another way to add additional charges!![]()

I don't need the Oil life monitor because I change every 5000 regardless of it's reading. I'm thinking the tire pressure monitor might be a benefit if you are on the road and unknowing start losing pressure that comes to a point of safety. In my case, I don't use the remote start because at home the truck is always parked in the garage and would fill up with monoxide quickly. It is risky in our state to start a vehicle remotely in a parking lot...we consistently run in the top tier level of the highest number auto thefts! It will be free for life. I'll play devil's advocate on this one. Currently the way most manufacturers do things is that they tie up all kinds of useful features into "packages" that are only available on particular "trim levels". If you want, e.g., a heated seat on a ranger you need to pay something like $8k to move from an XL to a Lariat. What if you think you might want heated seats, shell out the $8k, and find out it's a useless feature you'll never use? Well, you're just screwed. What BMW is doing is letting you try out the heated seats to see if you like them before you shell out big money, or only pay for them once a year when you take your annual trip to Siberia, or pay something like $500 to permanently add them to a car that didn't come with them when you bought it. Is that really worse than how Ford is currently doing it? Yeah, the subscription/activation model is susceptible to abuse, but I'd have a lot more sympathy with the haters IF THE SYSTEM WE HAVE NOW DIDN'T ALREADY SUCK. The manufacturers are going to get their margin one way or another. If I could have the option to give them their margin just on stuff I want, without getting a bunch of useless crap I don't want that's only there to justify charging more for a particular trim level (ambient lighting!), I'd take that option. A lot of the stuff I wanted on the ranger (heated seats/mirrors, auto wipers, adaptive cruise, etc) were tied up in appearance stuff I specifically did not want (big wheels, leather seats, ambient lighting, etc). Sometimes features are tied up in combinations I will flat out refuse to buy (four door short bed truck, sunroof) so I just don't have any option to get the feature I want without compromising on something I refuse to compromise on. Will it be possible in the future to decouple those things so I end up paying approximately the same amount but get exactly the truck I want by utilizing remote activation functionality? Who knows--but I think it's ridiculous to argue that is a terrible possible future, and that the crap choices the manufactures currently give us is a hill worth dying on to preserve.I thought you were joking, but BMW is charging owners in Korea $18.00/month for heated seats, snd $10.00/month for heated steering wheel.
BMW to charge for heated seats and steering wheel.
The ranger is the first car I've owned in 20 years that didn't have a quick way to roll all the windows down before getting in. The corners ford cut are just fascinating.hide it in my truck payment , I would consider a small fee in the summer if I could app my windows up and down
That was always the case; a message is nicer than a spinning wheel with no hint as to what the expectations should be.my app now has a message when i remote start that says "could take up to 30 seconds " it wasn't there a few days ago...
