You need to learn your new transmission. It behaves like no automatic from the past, which is why I bought it. It is a game changer.
I spent 45 years resisting the ownership of automatics due to bad performance and unreliability, as well as poor efficiency.
This is not Grampa's Powerglide! :giggle:

I agree with others on tow mode for slow speed driving; traffic, school zones, etc. I keep sport mode for when I really want to haul ass.
I tried this on the way home from work and indeed it calmed the transmission down quite a bit. Still shifts alarmingly hard (but I'm also coming from a CVT car)

Do the Bilsteins asap. As other have mentioned trying these should solve all of your issues. Congratulations but you better hide your wallet if you plan to stick around. This place does an amazing job and spending your money and finding little mods you never would have looked for on your own ?
As soon as property taxes are paid, I'll probably do the rear Bilsteins then the fronts when I can.

This is the biggest bunch of enablers I have ever met!! And I am proud to be one??
I've already started. Bought the armrest organizer storage cubby thing, the TAILGATE DAMPER!, the key cylinder trim part from the guy here on the forums, and I'm currently looking for a nice bug deflector.
It has begun.

Mine calmed down the rough shifting at almost exactly 5k miles. Every once in a while Ill get a rough shift into 8th on the highway but that has gotten more rare as well.

I have the AVS one that sticks on the hood and like it quite well so far.

Tow Mode + Gear Lock Out for city driving.

I lock out gears 8, 9, and 10 around town.

To lock out gears, in D mode press the minus button on the shifter one time, this will then display 10 gears on your instrument cluster, keep pressing minus button until the number 10 reduces to the wanted max gear. In my case the number 7.

With a max gear of 7 you hover around 2200 RPM for roads 55mph or less. You will no longer bog down on steep hills or steeply grading roads while the transmission hunts for a better gear.

Depending on your truck setup, this has actually increased the MPG for some of us, but keep in mind that may be the case for those trucks which are very far out of factory specs due to mods. These trucks are very susceptible to MPG loss once you start altering anything that changes the physical layout of the truck, ie; level, lift, tire size, etc etc

Even removing that dumb little black plastic chin (air dam) on the bottom of the front bumper will alter your MPG

I would get a dealer to fix that, regardless of the hassle it may be. And before I put on that damper. I would not want them telling me later that I did something to cause the misalignment, or even worse, not taking it there and finding out much later that there is something wrong in manufacturing or bent somewhere that is causing the misalignment. At least taking it to a dealer should document the issue for now.

We drove 6 hours to get the truck from NC to KY so I'm back home now and it already has 400mi on it. On the way home (mostly highway as you'd imagine) I averaged 26.5mpg. Not bad. Its a 4WD XLT.

I like the truck pretty well so far. I did notice the left side of the tailgate is WAY off, like 1/4in poking out vs the right side. I might try to adjust something or in the worst case scenario I can take it to a local dealer.

My main concern is the transmission. What is the deal?! This thing is ALWAYS trying to be in a really high gear like 9 or 10. In stop and go traffic is kept trying to be in 6th gear at 12mph. Is this part of the adaptive learning process? Might this get better? It also seems to have all 4 tires out of balance especially noticeable on the highway around 60-70mph. Is this a thing where they come from the factory needing a rebalance?

Aside from those issues, it seems to be pretty good.

Hey, Justin, the truck looks great, welcome to the Forum. For highways and freeways, I drive in Drive mode, but for just about everything else, I put it in Sport, which keeps it in lower gears longer. There are some threads here about tuning if you are open to that, which adds power and helps with the transmission as well. I added the Ford Performance Power Pack tune, but there are lots of aftermarket options. Whatever you decide, enjoy the ride!

Before you run to the dealer about your tailgate, try closing it with a good "slam"...not just a gentle raise and close.
My tailgate does the exact same thing, also on the drivers side...then I tried closing it with a good shove and it closes all the way.

Mine required a steroid close to latch good , but just that one time ...DONT let Dave convince you that is the result of "STD " , (sudden tailgate drop) ... but in all reality , a damper will fix it...as much as that pains me to type...
