As a note, the friend that's coming with me (meeting there) just had this facebook event from 4x4Him Bakersfield pop up, they're planning on running the obstacle park starting at 10am until 2pm on Saturday. Since we're meeting there, it's a good time to get in a bit of play before they show up if we plan to (personally I'm more interested in trails). But a heads up nonetheless.

Yea the trails are the best part! The 4x4 area is fun for a little while but can get boring quickly. It is a great place to stage though.

I saw a 20% chance of rain Friday and Saturday, but it doesn't sound like much. Fingers crossed!

Now I'm at the crossroads of whether to pick up some FRS/GMRS radios (could use my Baofeng but that's against FCC rules) or a handheld CB for these kinds of trips...

I just got a cheap Uniden hand held CB radio and a magnetic mount antenna on amazon. If it works great if not I’ll return it.

That's what I'm thinking about doing, even without an external antenna it should be good enough for this weekend.

I will not be able to do much on the trails as my wife is coming and she has. wing in a sling, 3 weeks post op.

you got it!

I only got the antenna because I originally ordered another CB that mounts to the truck but couldn’t find a place to mount it that I liked so I got the handheld and kept the antenna I already bought...
